Violin string adhesions

Hi, I had a hysterectomy 20 years ago after 2 years of a lot of pain. The gynecologist said its fibroids. When they operated they found my abdomen was all stuck together with what he described as violin string adhesions. I made a quick and good recovery then 2 months later I became really unwell, upper right sided abdominal pain, neurological symptoms extreme fatigue and nausea. I have had abdominal scans, blood tests and the 9nly thing that has come up is low vitamin b12. When I asked if it could be adhesions that are still causing problems after all these years it is dismissed.has anyone else experienced this.thanks

Well first thing is first, adhesions always come back! Secondly no scan picks them up!

Thirdly, Drs tend to dismiss them! You will be told you have IBS or in my dads case cyclic sickness syndrome.... You will only truly find out if you have a serious adhesion problem if/when they become life threatening!

Me. IBS. Now my ovary is stuck to my bowel, I’m now a complicated surgical risk, because now I have adhesions! Would you Adam and Eve it!

My dad. Cyclic Sickness Syndrome until an adhesion cause a strangulated bowel!

Drs dismiss adhesions, but they’re the reason they’ve shifted over to keyhole surgery! Not everyone will get adhesions, but they generally are the cause of acute abdominal admission into hospital!

Unfortunately I can’t answer your question, and to be fair, neither will no Dr!

Xx

Thanks for replying. Yep it is so frustrating I feel like I am being patted on the head and told that's the way it is and get on with it!! Hope you and your dad get sorted.

The NIH estimates that about 93 percent of abdominal surgeries result in adhesions and that about 20 percent of surgical patients will be re-hospitalized for adhesion-related complications. Although the complication is common, it's not well-understood.

There is some interesting reading on adhesions online.. It is why surgery should only be undertaken if it’s completely necessary......

Unfortunately it’s not just surgery that can cause them! Infection, disease, no reason whatsoever! I’m not sure what % of people get adhesions from those reasons, but I for one had adhesions well before I had had any surgery! From both Endo and Infections xx
