sick note from hospital

Hi, i'm due for my second lap next week to have all my endo removed, with bowel scrape/possible removal of affected bowel.

I've asked & been told that the hospital will provide me with a sick note when I'm discharged, but I am wondering if anyone can tell me the length of the sick notes they were given?

I've told work i'll be off for worst case 8 weeks, as that's what the leaflet I was sent said. Will they sign me off for 8 weeks but I can get a 'fit for work' note if i feel up to returning earlier?

I would appreciate hearing your experiences!

Thank you

Hey!I think your recovery time will depend of what they do.

I.e if they remove part of your bowel, recovery will take much longer then the average laparoscopy.

Everyone is different and your body will recover in its own way.

I had laparoscopy with tissue removed ( although not sure to what extent yet, haven’t had my post op follow up app yet)

But I am 13 days post surgery and was led

To believe I’d feel much better by now.

I’m due back to work in 2 days after a 2 week sick note and still need regular naps, still in slot of pain, and can’t really sit up straight.

I’m sure if your recovery is quick and you feel ready doctor will sign you for to work.

Hope all goes well for you 💜 x

Hey lovely,

I got told 8 weeks recovery and when I got the sick note it said 4 weeks. The consultant told me it’s max 4 weeks and then contact own go who extends it (which I did).

Hope that helps and best of luck xx

Hi, you should get 4 weeks to start with then have to contact GP for another.Good to tell work 8 weeks potentially longer.

I had multidisciplinary surgery in Oct which took 6 hrs, was kept in hospital for 4 days. No complications thankfully. I was expecting max of 8 wks recovery, but I needed a bit longer. I wasn't in a huge amount of pain after 8 wks but was having some hormonal issues and withdrawal from some of the meds. Nothing horrific, but brain fog and migraines.

So, my message is plan for 8 but listen to your body and get support from the GP.

Thank you for your advice/experiences everyone, surgery went well & I made sure I got a 4 week sick note before I left the hospital. ☺️
