Hi! Does anyone know what a professional is called who can advise on diet and supplements for women who have endometriosis?
Nutritionist?
Dietician?
Apothecary? 😉 (That's a joke)
I'm wondering because I've read a few tips on health blogs, but I feel cautious about taking supplements before checking with a knowledgeable person. There are interesting things about ginger, curcumin, vitamins C and E, and others.
Update: I've since found out that in the UK, it's the Dieticians who have formal training, registration, and often work inside the NHS. I've requested a referral to a dietician from the GP, and there was no issue to make the referral (which is surprising - it's sometimes a challenge to get a referral). The GP's top suggestions were to look into: low fodmap diet, peppermint oil, probiotics.
Personally, I stay away from supplements! It’s an unregulated market that is proved to cause death, believe it or not!
I mean, feel free to take a daily multivitamin but anything more than that is just messing with stuff you don’t understand!
If curcumin and ginger could cure disease, India would be the healthiest place on planet! Alas, it isn’t! Curcumin is actually a blood thinner though! If you ever need emergency surgery, you could bleed out!
I’m an advocate for good old food! Having a balanced diet of whole food products is better than supplementing anything! I mean water soluble vits, not a problem! But anything fat soluble can lead to toxicity even over time!
But that’s my opinion! Good quality whole foods is what the body needs to function! Xx
If you really are looking at diet as a cure, I would suggest you mimic the Japanese diet! They are the healthiest people on planet, with the longest life expectancy of all with very low levels of cancer/heart disease ect!
I’d stay well away from the western worlds idea of health! These ‘supplements’ have yet to extend our life expectancy! Actually, since their ‘discovery’ cancers have increased and our life expectancy has started to decrease!

I have a couple of books I'm reading now on diet - one for an anti-inflammatory diet, and one for an endometriosis diet. I'm looking forward to learning a few tips to use in the kitchen. At the very least, I'll learn some new recipes.
Over the past few days healing from my laparoscopy, I've been reading some interesting things. I started with the Endometriosis UK site, the NICE management guidelines, then material for clinicians, and research articles on PubMed about research on endometriosis. It's really neat to see the results of studies about topics like reducing inflammation to help reduce pain from endometriosis. Some of these papers give results of trials where patients have used supplements, with promising outcomes.
I have no medical training, so I will check with a registered health practitioner before taking supplements. But what I find worth considering are the supplements that may be associated with good outcomes, which are known to be safe to take (in those amounts). So, before dismissing supplements entirely, I'm going to find out if I can get more information.
My next lead is to check with a GP to see if he thinks it could be helpful to check with a dietician (they are formally trained, registered, and work in the NHS).
I never had such luck with my dietician, who just told me to try diets of exclusion and if that didn’t work, to try the FODMAP diet!
I have reversed disease in both human and animals, with diet! Kidney failure, liver failure, type 2 diabetes with my dad! Where I used whole foods! Stuck to nutrient dense foods, good quality protein and healthy fats!
My horse was anhidrotic, ie couldn’t sweat! That is where I had to supplement, because I had no control over his grazing or forage, so no choice but to supplement! I used omega 3, brewers yeast to aid digestion, it’s a building block for protein and seaweed to give him everything his grazing was lacking ie selenium! But they are still whole foods! And personally, that should be the base of an anti-inflammatory diet!
You start with aiding digestion, increasing protein and anti-inflammatory fats! Xx
