I have every symptom of endometriosis but have not yet managed to get a diagnosis.
I have recently had an urgent referral to the gynaecologist as I have been bleeding after sex for a while now and have experienced a lot of pain during and after sex as well. The gynaecologist asked me a couple of questions about my periods and pain, did no examinations or tests and then sent me on my way saying the bleeding after sex is normal.
I already have the mirena coil which is starting to help with the heaviness and agony of my periods so I didn't expect any further treatment but surely he should have given me some kind of test or examination to rule out causes of bleeding after sex other than endometriosis? I told my gp that I'd like a second opinion but I was told the gynaecology department wouldn't give me another referral. Should I talk to the gp again and push for another referral or is it so likely that the bleeding after sex is caused endometriosis that I shouldn't worry about other possible causes?

Yes they should have done an examination. It could be caused for example by cervical ectropian, which if they did an exam they could have confirmed if you had it. It's pretty common, and can clear up by itself, but can cause bleeding after sex (some people have it with no symptoms). Maybe ask for your next smear test to be done now? So it helps rule out anything bad.
Bleeding after sex isn't normal. It could be something serious. Contact PALS (telephone number will be on the trust website), complain that they've not taken you seriously (regarding something they might be life threatening) and that you want another appointment with a different consultant ASAP.
Also tell your GP to do a smear too. Really important you don't let this go.
It's 100% not normal to bleed after sex. You should have been physically examined and had an internal scan and ultrasound.
Your GP is BSing you. If you're not happy with the quality of treatment from your gynae, you're in your right to ask for an alternative. Push back and tell your GP you're suffering immensely and need an urgent referral now. There are many other gynaes out there and I would push for an endo specialist.
I agree with Christin_a best to push for having your cervical smear and mention cervical ectropion.
I had that, it's where sensitive cells further up the cervix appear at the base. I had sharp pain during sex, bleeding / spotting during / after sex, and like a crampy achey after sex. I had mine chemically removed under local anaesthetic about three years ago, no problems since
It may not be that but they can usually see it during the smear and can take a sample to send it off for testing.
Bleeding after sex is not associated with endometriosis! Your symptoms would suggest cervical. You need swabs for infection, a smear test, and a cervical exam, possibly a hysterscopy if the first 3 show up nothing! Best of luck xx
