How long does it take for Zoladex to stop working?

I have stage 4 endo and had a 12cm endometrioma removed from my left ovary and my ovary sewn back together in November. I also had my right Fallopian tube removed at the same time. My consultant couldn’t remove my right ovary as it’s stuck to my bowel by adhesions, which I’m told are extensive and in lots of other places too, they’re pulling everything in my pelvis to the right so that my sacrum can be seen from the front. I need another laparoscopy with my consultant and a colo-rectal surgeon.

Prior to this lap I was in a lot of pain, I could barely function. My job requires me to be very ‘on the ball’ so I took a lot of pain killers, eventually relying on Oxycodone. I was then put on zoladex in June last year, the first two months didn’t work but in September I was put on a 3 month implant. I’ve had days where I thought the implant was wearing off due to what I would describe as light bleeding. I’m dreading being in so much pain again, I get stabbing pains and lower back pain but I can function.

I was told that as the endometrioma had been removed we could start trying for a baby, starting a family would be a dream come true, I’d be willing to put up with a huge amount of pain if it meant we could have a baby.

My question is, who else has had the 3 month Zoladex implant and how long did it take to wear off? I’m not a very patient person, I’ve read things about the implant never wearing off for some people and I’m worried this may be the case. But does 4-5 months seem normal for it to still be having an effect?

Hi Drivinganywhere, I think it varies for everyone due to hormones etc. I had the implant for three consecutive months and I thought my period would never come back. I got period pains every so often but with no bleeding but eventually it came back after around 8 months I would say.

I hope you can get some support for your pain management and hope all goes well with trying to start a family.

Hi KaspianSky, thank you for your reply. I’ve got a few more months to wait then. Hopefully they go quickly.
