Hi Jopo2020, it is medication that clears your bowels before surgery. Might be worth speaking to a medical professional so they can clarify this for you.

Ah thank you so much they saying I may need to have a colostomy bag too as I have damage bladder and bowls I’m absolutely Terrified of it as I need to have a full total hysterectomy done... I will do thank you so much.

It’s a drink to clear your bowels out before surgery. Not the nicest thing to drink, but needed if they have to operate on your bowel. It also makes the op easier as there’s more room to see other parts.

Sounds absolutely disgusting yes they need too as I have damage bladder and bowls and may need to have a colostomy bag so scared

Hi.As others have said it's a drink that is used to clear you out. Ive done a few times and I find it harder than the actual op 😂

Good luck with your surgery. I had mine 2 years ago now, and I was also being told, to prepare for a bag, however I managed to get away with it, due to the distance of the damage to the rectum.

I won't lie, it's major surgery so the recovery is hard, but it's the best thing I ever did. I was so scared too. If you have any questions then feel free to. Send me a message x

Wishing you the best of luck.

I recently had this! It is a drink, and I found that harder than the actually surgery. What I wasn't told which I found out later is you can put a little bit of cordial in it to try and make it more bareable! Which I highly recommend lol. It actually made me violently sick, so I was worried that it wouldn't work - but it did. Good luck with everything x

Honestly, I was exactly the same and really nervous. But it's one of the easiest things i have done, you get the choice of a relaxer, which i went for and it does calm you down. Then you also have the option to use the gas- which i again used and it was honestly way better than i thought it was going to be! The staff were all lovely, and actually some how kept making me laugh so it was comfortable in there- they do it on a daily basis, so no need for embarrassment etc. It's over before you know it and then you wonder what all the worrying was for.

The hardest part was stomaching the drink- but i am so bad with even like calpol haha! You will smash it don't worry xx

Hi I had bowel prep three times at the end of last year because they cancelled my surgery twice (after I'd taken it!) I didn't find it as bad as the others here. It tasted of orange and I just drank quickly. I had IBS, and frankly, it was just like a bad bout of that. I followed the diet they gave me precisely over the weekend and on the day of the bowel prep. I wasn't hungry at all. After I went to the loo (it gives you bad diarrhoea) I put a bit of vaseline on a tissue and wiped all round by bum - it stops the burning next time you go.

They warned me I might need a colostomy bag too - if it involves your bowels they have to warn you that. It happens sometimes but it didn't for me. In fact, when they went in my endo was higher up than they thought it was (on the sigmoid bowel) so apparently, it was textbook and much easier than they thought. Best of luck with your op - do you have an endo nurse you can speak to about your fears? xx

I have had dozens of the bowel preperations over 40 years, as I have had rectal bleeding for 40 years. I had a hysterectomy at 28 years old. I asked them if they would let me have a colostomy, but they would not do it. The lining of my bowel is very thin. Hence, they said I could bleed to death. I also have a rectal ulcer. Hence, I have to have the bowel preperation every 2 years to check my bowel. I find the preperation horrible, worse than the procedure. To be honest I would have prefered to have had the colostomy than to have had rectal bleeding all my life. regads, Della xx

Oh no sorry to hear you have had to go through that sounds awful and painful... I’m hoping I don’t need to have a colostomy bag xx

Tell them how you feel. I was hoping they would let me have a colostomy bag, but it was not possible. Hence, 40 years of suffering and rectal bleeding, Take care, Della xx
