Any pill recommendations instead of Provera?

My daughter has suspected endo and has been admitted to hospital recently with the extreme pain. The doctor prescribed Microgynon but not long afterwards she had breakthrough bleeding despite taking the pill continually without a break. After 34 days of bleeding she was prescribed Norethisterone which stopped the bleeding but was told it is a temporary solution and she had to stop taking it. Once again she started bleeding so the gynie consultant recommended Provera. Our doctor said she could take this but only for 6-9 months and the side effects from others on this forum of depression, anxiety ands suicidal thoughts have made her too scared to try it, especially if it is only short term anyway. Can anyone recommend another combined pill other than Microgynon that may help? It would seem that one with higher progesterons is more beneficial? She is taking A Level assessments soon and has missed so much schooling due to ill health in the last 6 months. Really want to get her on a pill that will work so she feels better and before she goes off to Uni? She also has IBS and I'm convinced this is connected to Endo somehow. Reading everyone's posts it is so sad to see how many females suffer so badly and for so long. Sending you all big hugs and my upmost sympathy x

Hello. Sorry to hear your daughter is suffering. I wonder if she should keep trying with microgynon. I was on it for 20 odd years before I had to come off due to other gynae issues. Give it a bit more time to work.

I am now on provera and have been for about 5 years. It works for me and I have never felt depressed or low on the pills. I am going to carry on using them for another 5 years until I am sure I have hit the menopause.

Everyone is different but I found both hormone tablets worked well for me and were instrumental in removing the pain so I can live normally.

I used to have ibs linked to stress. Without the pain and with no periods the stress has fallen away.

Good luck to you both

Thanks for your reply! We have another doctors appt today so will see what they recommend. So pleased to hear both worked for you and your IBS settled too - gives her hope! Best wishes
