Mirena coild removed, scan showing still there

Bt of back story, long term mirena user but after having it replaced during surgery last year i had horrendous pain. Went to hospital where had to have it removed as it was coming out, at the same time a new one was put in. A week later still in pain i went back and had it removed.

Both times awake, both times shown the coil.

Last week i had a scan to check a fibroid and was told my mirena coil was still there.

Im now concerned as i have been on cerezette pill since it was removed and now don't know if its been doing damage. Ive also had pain and bleeding which was put down to endo but now im not so sure.

Any advice welcome as i am unsure what to do next.

I’d speak to GP, see what they say about taking the pill, etc. They’ll be able to see scan results as well.

It might be worth requesting a copy of hospital notes to see notes of the procedures.

Try not to worry, I know it’s not easy.

So it was a coil! I have yet still to see my gynie but had the coil removed. From looking at my notes they never removed the coil i already had in. Instead they just put a new one in without checking first. Massively lost trust and unsure how to proceed. But yes glad I pushed to have it investigated further , thanks for the advice :)

Oh wow, that is horrendous, no wonder you were in pain. That really is negligent of the dr.Was it gynae who put the coil in?

Yep, had a team of three who did the laproscopy and excison surgery. On my notes it says mirena inserted rather than replaced. Haven't been able to speak to any one as my appointments were cancelled due to covid. I still don't understand how it wasnt picked up that it was still in there as I had a second coil put in shortly after surgery as the replacement (which i now know was an extra) fell out. Just feel massively let down and its defo left me fearing future surgeries.

I’d let the consultants secretary know, you’ll get a cal pretty quickly. They’ll know they’ve screwed up big time.
