Tips of Surviving a Flare

Hello everyone,

I’m very new to this platform - I’m 28, diagnosed at 20 after suffering from the age of 13. I’m currently awaiting my next Lap and excision surgery & being tested for Crohns.

I own a business and yet again, taking another day off from work due to collapsing with intense pain during my flare. I was wondering what other people do to help navigate the mental issues as well as the physiological pain?

I cannot take pain killers as I have many allergies to both natural and synthetic drugs prescribed by the doctors. So I have paracetemol to get me through. Any advice would be super helpful as I’m starting to feel defeated

Thank you!

Hi there, I’m in the middle of my flare too! Similar situation to you-waiting and waiting. I know it sounds very simple but a moist heat (rice bag) actually works well for a ‘break’ from the pain. Especially when resting. Gives me a chance to actually rest. My pain is directly lower abdomen so soothes by the heat. Keen to hear what others have to say on it. Will take any and all advice at this point myself!

Fellow business owner here and it’s awful the pressure you feel to get work done, everything stacks up and the panic is real.

Heat packs help, I’ve read lots about tens machines I personally don’t get on with them but lots of people do, diet and lifestyle changes anti inflammatory diets I’ve read every book cover to cover and still can’t resist ordering pizza.

Mentally try and I know it’s hard to give yourself a break, if you feel rubbish lay in bed make a nest and drink lots of herbal teas, get the heat, and try to forget what needs doing, for me hot baths are great again Epsom salts. Distraction and TV or a book anything to distract from work.

I also chat to lots of other endo warriors on Instagram and we all check in on each other, it’s just amazing to not feel alone and share the pain and struggle that helps me so much mentally, if you are on Instagram just search endo accounts the community is huge and so so supportive xx
