Hi, I had a mirena coil in for 8 months since my c section....and it came out on sat. I was so happy because I hate it. I just rang the hospital department to ask about a different contraceptive and they said I have no choice but another coil. I cried on the phone to her. Is this definitely the only option? I want another baby as soon as is sensible. Just want something to make my periods lighter for 7 months or so. We can use condoms no problem Anyone any other ideas?

Sorry the coil did not work for you it’s been a blessing for me. Can they not offer you the contraceptive pill?
The coil has been really rough for me too. I’m waiting on an appt with my specialist to discuss it and what to do next. You could try doing back to back birth control pills until you’re ready to start trying. I personally can’t do this anymore because I have thrombocytosis so they won’t let me. It causes my blood to have too many platelets which can in turn cause blood clots, and being on the pill increases that chance. I would say it’s the least impactful and easiest contraceptive to stop. Before they figured out the clotting disorder I was doing back to back birth control pills for about 2 years.
Hello.
I would just say it is your body and no one else’s choice what treatment you have or have to tolerate.
I have the mirena and not too keen on it and I asked my specialist if there was any alternatives and he said there was progesterone only tablet form.
The only like us having the coil because it supposedly lasts 5 years and therefore keeps us off their books and is cheaper.
With me it has done little to help except reduce bleeding, or if it is helping I dread to think what the pain would be without it.
Best wishes to you xxx
Take a grain of salt because I don’t need to prevent pregnancy, but I take a tablet form of progesterone (Norethindrone acetate) to prevent bleeding (I believe it would also prevent pregnancy but not sure) and it has worked better for me than Mirena. Mirena caused cramping sometimes and I still had spotting so my doctor said that I was probably still developing lesions. After a couple months of norethindrone acetate my bleeding completely stopped. You should talk to your doctor of course because everyone’s body is different.
