Sleeping problems

Hi all,

I know this is most likely a common problem however I'd love for some advice on how you all cope or manage this in any way shape or form.

I have been on a terrible flare up for over a week now and I have hardly slept. My sleep pattern is very broken with tossing and turning most the night or constantly getting up to pee.

How, if anything, have you managed to cope with this/any tips on getting a better night sleep.

I'm at the end of my teather and now to the point I'm so tired I am struggling to eat, yet although I am knackered I seem to struggle to actually fall asleep! This is not just normal fatigue either as I'm literally not sleeping properly.

Thank in advance for your help on the matter x

The terrible sleep cycle...i know ecactly what you mean and how you feel. I tend to have a hot shower around 7 pm, cut off technology so your brain start relaxing have a fresh mint tea ( soothing for me) and a dose of liquid magnesium which helps relax the muscles in your boddy and by 9 pm I go to bed with a pillow underneath my knees in a dark room. The pillow helps me with the lower back pain which keeps me up sadly. I tend to put my noise cancellatoin headphones on with some relaxing music and 30 min later I drift off. On a very bad day, i would take 2 doses of Magnesium to relax my boddy one by lunch time and the other dinner time. But i have yet to find the solution to the pee in the middle of the night but by the time I need one I have had 4 hrs sleep already so is not to bad. Is a terrible situation, sending hugs your way.

Hi. I stop drinking by 7pm and don’t have alcohol or caffeine at all. This means I get about 4 hours then I have to pee and spend the next hour trying to get back to sleep. I use a meditation app, have a pillow under my knees, a fan on, dark room but still have issues. It’s like it’s bed time so my brain wakes up whatever I do. The magnesium didn’t do it for me just causes stomach issues but it’s worth a try. Chamomile may help.

When I'm like this I go to bed super early , with just a good book , no tv or devices .

I have a hot water bottle and take a dose if co codamol, making sure I have water and the next dose beside my bed if I wake in the night with pain.

I tell myself that it's ok if I dont sleep as long as I am resting my mind and body ( it tends to take the pressure off !)

I get up to pee every single night but luckily I tend to fall back to sleep .

I've been there so many times with flare ups, i know what you are going through, hope you feel better soon.

Ps. I try to make my bedroom as restful as possible, nice sheets ,fresh air , scented candles etc

I hear you. I am struggling a lot with this too. I go to bed at around 8:30-9pm. Take two paracetamol before bed. Fresh sheets, window open, nice and dark. I use my meditation app, but sometimes can’t get to sleep for hours. I wake up around 5 times a night on average to go for a wee. It’s awful. Pain in my rib cage, sides and back at the moment is terrible. I use my wheat bag or hot water bottle too, which often helps. Lots of love to you all. Xxx

I could be up 3 or 4 times for a wee a night and then struggle to get back to sleep. My mum ordered me cranberry tablets from Holland and Barrett and this has reduced the number of times I’m up. I now mange about 6hrs uninterrupted sleep.
