Urinary Retention 8 months post hysterectomy

Hi.

On the 31st of October I had a total hysterectomy with ovarian conservation. Since then I experienced recurrent UTI symptoms. By the time I got to my 7th time my GP referred me to urology. I had a cystoscopy in which debris was found in my bladder. I started medications that just made things worse and was told to stop them. On the 18th of May I went into urinary retention. I had my TWOC on the 5th of June, which I failed and now have a catheter for a longer amount of time. Due to COVID19 consultant appointments have all been delayed and I am at my wits end with regards to what I should do. Has anyone else experienced this?

This is terrible for you. I have had urinary retention but in different circumstances to you. It is a horrible thing to happen - to lose the ability to pee by yourself.

Mine was caused by childbirth 16 years ago and it lasted 5 weeks. I had to self catheterise regularly to empty my bladder. I have had trouble with my bladder fully emptying recently but given no options but to self catheterise again.

How was your bladder before your operation? My uterus is the cause of the recent bladder problems. It is full of fibroids and adenomyosis. Do you think the hysterectomy caused your problems?

Thankyou for your reply.

Before the operation I did get UTIs but never retention. Post hysterectomy I feel like my bladder has either got endo or fallen or been traumatized. Waiting to get answers then would know for definite if it was caused by the hysterectomy or endo.

I hope you find out the cause of your problem. I had nerve damage from giving birth. I had no feeling and couldn't feel my full bladder.

But I also had retention caused by a swollen uterus - once when pregnant and every single month with my cycle. My sensitive bladder is why my gynecologist doesn't want to even do a laperoscopy to check for endometriosis. I have a Mirena in to calm my uterus.

I really hope you can sort things soon.
