Had my telephone appointment with the pain specialist today (after nearly 3 years wait!)

He wants to start me on a nerve blocker medicine. Has anyone got any experience (good or bad) with Gabapentin? Would appreciate any info :)

I had gabapentin a couple of years ago not for my endo but for a back problem, I honestly didn't find it much help and eventually stopped taking it. My boss had it earlier this year for a trapped nerve and said it helped the pain and helped him sleep but he was really spaced out, another friend had it for facial neuralgia and said it was fantastic so I think it depends. I am not very responsive to a lot of painkillers, after my laparotomy I had morphine but it just made me itchy and pethadine did the same so maybe that's why it didn't do much for me. It's definitely worth a try if you are in a lot of pain. Hope you get some good results :)

Thank you for your reply. I am not very responsive to painkillers either. I am currently on 4 x 5ml of oramorph a day but i’m still in constant pain and like you, my whole body just itches!

I’ve been on gabapentin for about three years and it’s not working for me. I’ve started this medicine called duloxletine, after couple of weeks it started to help with the pain and depression but it caused a swelling in my body. I can feel lumpy bits on my liver, thighs, ankles and legs.

That’s good to know. He is going to try me on 3 different ones. Im going to start on gabapentin for 6 weeks then change to pregabalin for another 6 weeks and then finally try

duloxetine. I have no experience with any of the 3 so what you have said really helps me out. Thank you x
