Hi all,
I would be keen to get advice or other people’s perspectives. I am 31 years old and have been struggling with polycystic ovaries and endometriosis from I was roughly 16 years old. I have had multiple surgeries and had an ovarian torsion several years ago which resulted in me having my left fallopian tube removed. Roughly 5 years ago, my gynaecologist suggested a hysterectomy, at that time I felt apprehensive regards this. In the last year, following a further hospital admission to control pain, my gynaecologist mentioned the hysterectomy and oophorectomy again. Long story short, I had an appointment with a 2nd consultant on Tuesday which I had to have due to my age and because I have no children. He suggested retaining my ovaries to help with oestrogen levels and prevent side effects associated with the loss of this naturally. The original plan had been removal of all and high dose HRT. I suppose the main query I have is has anyone any experience of this? With me having the polycystic ovaries I don’t want to still experience pain of the ruptures etc that do happen quite frequently. I feel I would prefer to just get it all over and done with. I am aware that the hysterectomy may not work but at this point I’m willing to try it in case it does. Whilst I feel I am closing the door on having my own biological children, I came to terms with this being a potential long ago and as cheesy as it sounds, one day closes and another opens, this could be the start of a relatively pain free life.
All opinions/suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance.
