Prostap -how is it
Hi, I've been on prostap since October, so I've had 4 injections in total. My pain is beyond horrific, and having excision surgery on Monday - finally!! I honestly don't know how bad the pain would have been without it, but I'm glad I done it to show the doctors I gave everything a go. Make sure you take the hrt tablets though, as I found they helped my mood. I have had some very low times, but I have contributed that to the constant pain I am in, may not just be the hormone. I would definitely give it a go, at least the doctors will be pleased you've given everything a go. I hope that's helpful! X
I had this for 6 months post excision op. My experience was not 100% the best - but I am not sure if it was a combination of both the influx of different steroid/hormones from the prostap, and the post op too!
I went through the typical side effects of menopause, which is common with the injection; hot flushes, nausea, confusion.
I think the fact that I had the op, and started these straight after, my hormones were unbalanced enough already and had the injections on top!
Hopefully having the injections before surgery, may limit the side effects
Did you vomit on them
I did! I went from sickness, fatigue and nausea. To then, on the last injection, not being able to stop eating!
Oh dear well I’ll just have to try
Hello, I have been taking prostap for 15 months and it’s the best think I ever did. I had a few side effects (mood swings early on but nothing like when I took the pill) and hot flushes, especially at night, but the hrt has really helped. I’m lucky that I have a fabulous consultant and she thoroughly explained my options. Taking prostap has given me my life back, I’ve been period and pain free the whole time. I was able to get married without worrying about endo would ruin the day and honeymoon! I know everyone is different and has different experiences/side effects but for me prostap was the right choice. Unfortunately as I am only 43 I am unable to take it for much longer so I’m in the process of trying the Mirena. If that works I’ll come off the prostap. I wish you the best of luck and hope that you have as good an experience as I have. Keep in touch and let me know how you get on!
That’s lovely for you I was so worried about planning my wedding and honeymoon with endo worried about pain or falling on my period I was going through the process of postponing my wedding cause of all this mad I know!endo takes so much from us .as I am trying to conceive this was my main issue if periods come back quick as the specialist said I shouldn’t have issue thanks for your input x
I should also add that I tried 3 different pills before but couldn’t bare the side effects.
Hi
I’ve had the pro strap injection it was brilliant as it stopped the bleeding however the pain it caused and the horrific menopausal symptoms it brought on was the worst experience of my life and it didn’t really do what it was expected as once you come off it all the awful symptoms you had before came back for me.... but it may work for you so you must try it!!! But just pre warm your i loved ones you may not be yourself for a while i was like a crazy person it was shocking I nearly lost my partner through it so my advice is tell them or show them some of the replies you get so they can try to understand and support you better... I’ve since had a hysterectomy and even so I’m still up and down it’s the best thing I’ve done
Good luck xx
Hi I’ve just had my 4 th prostap injection of a 6 month course before my next surgery and the only side effect I’ve had is hot flushes I was already getting them anyway but they are just more regular. I was terrified of the side effects before I started and have been really surprised that I haven’t had any
Hey,
I started prostap at the beginning of Jan, I’ve never been so ill! Constant migraine, nausea and light headedness. It’s impossible to function and go to work and I’m freelance so have to!
The thing that I find infuriating is no one really tells you - they just give you the injection and act like it’s totally normal. A week after I started I had a terrible period, so heavy, lots of huge blood clots and the pain was double the normal endo pain. For the last week I’ve been bleeding and period pain every day.
So, this is only my experience and we’re all different but I very much regret having it and won’t be having the next 3 injections before my hysterectomy.
My surgeon also told me it ‘kills’ the endo. But from research and speaking to another surgeon this isn’t true and actually just makes the endo harder to find when they come to do excision.
Of course some women seem to get on with it ok but i was the same with coil, so ill! Do you have a clear and good reason from your surgeon to take prostap?
Wishing you all the best whatever you decide.
X
Well I wanted it before I have a lap I don’t want endo to get worse as ttc
I had two Prostap injections (May and August last year) to stop bleeding, I also have a Mirena Coil fitted. The Consultant has said he won’t give anymore as he said it can affect your bones. Fortunately I still haven’t bled and I’m keeping my finger crossed 🤞🏻🤞🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I had prostap for 4months and it was the best thing I ever did. Needed to take HRT for side effects but also no periods and no pain 😁 Having surgery in March then my consultant will let me stay on it until I want to have children (I'm 26). Please try it and don't base things off the 1st month as it's tough going but gets much better. Everyone is different but this is my miracle drug!
I started Prostap injections in November 2018 after being diagnosed with prostate cancer and prior to receiving radiotherapy which I started some months later in March 2019. I did suffer hot flushes, generally at night. These were uncomfortable. I also suffered severe mood swings and would sometimes burst into tears for no apparent reason although there was something that started it off; probably the fact that I had been told I had cancer. A kind doctor at my local hospital warned me of these side effects. I found out too that both the Prostap and radiotherapy could cause muscle and joint pain but when I started to suffer this my care nurse told me it was probably arthritis which I would probably suffer anyway as I am in my early 70s.
I finished my radiotherapy and Prostap treatment in April 2019 and am now cancer free depending on future blood tests. Unfortunately I still suffer slight hip pain and have been told by an orthopaedic surgeon that I have severe arthritis and may need a hip replacement in the near future. My GP has told me that the hip pain is not important compared with prostate cancer as it is not life-threatening. It is difficult to disagree with that.
Thankyou for all your replies I guess I was only planning on being on it short term as I’m hoping to be referred for a diagnostic lap and treatment my specialist is 95% certain I have endometriosis upon finding nodules on exam.my concern is that I’m trying to conceive after surgery so don’t know what to do I was originally ttc now but so worried not knowing what’s going on inside I’ve already misscarried at 12.5 week Its a difficult decision to make

I was on Prostap between two laps (2-stage excision process) and it made the second surgery so many easier for the surgeon. It really did shrink the endo and calm down the inflammation. It worked well for me and the side effects were worth it. I took HRT with it and I didn't have migraine, dizziness, nausea, insomnia etc. I did have irritability for a few months and the occasional hot flash, maybe some fatigue (although I was recovering from the first surgery so who knows), boob shrinkage and some weight gain (but again, recovering from surgery). It took 2 months to stop my periods completely and after that it was great not having periods. My periods went back to normal after a couple of months off it, and my figure also eventually returned to its pre-Prostap state. Hope this helps - everyone is different, though xx
