I had my lap yesterday and the doctor asked me again if I wanted the Mirena coil fitted which I said I didn’t. He then said he would start me on a chemical menopause, has anyone had a good experience on this? Would you recommend it? All thoughts good and bad appreciated.
Thank you x

Hi Oasis43! I’m currently going through chemically induced menopause right now - I have been diagnosed with Adenomyosis and I’m 20. I’ve been given monthly injections of Decapeptyl and then HRT add-back Tibolone. I’m now atarting to feel it working after 2 months (can take time to kick in) and my pain levels have reduced over the course of the day. Instead of being in constant horrible pain, the majority of it has dulled down to sharp aches etc instead which is great for me.
I know some women get along with it and others don’t. I know it’s only a temporary thing - no more than 6 months - but for me, the prospect of little or no pain is a big thing after a year straight of nothing but pain.
Good luck with it all xx
Hi Oasis43
I had my first lap in Oct 2015 and was adamant I was going to try and manage my pain etc through diet, I didn’t want the false menopause treatment. Unfortunately I was in so much pain, nothing I did seemed to help (pain killers, food but hot water bottle and castor oil seemed to be the best) anyway 6 months later I gave in and had the injection and I personally wish Id have had it as soon as I had my lap. The medical profession suggest that it shrinks any left over endo so straight after a lap would be a good time to have it. I ended up taking it for 3 years and hadthe three month prescription because I had really bad mood swings with the monthly injection (possibly because it was wearing off and my natural hormones were increasing).
I had the coil fitted at the same time as my op but that was a big mistake. I think that contributed to my pain. However I had the coil fitted again 3 years later which did seem to help.
I have to say they told me to take hrt but I didn’t - I felt it was contridictory; why have the menopause and then add back hormones (especially if you read some of the publications that endo can return after a hysterectomy and HRT is used). I’m not an expert and took it on myself not to have it.
