Pain relief

Hi guys!

Im after some advise and guidance on pain relief, I have extreme pains including severe sciatica with my endometriosis. I tried a TENS machine but this made things worse and heat therapy is becoming less and less effective unless I'm burning my skin (more of a distraction from the pain). In on codeine and naproxen but they dont work for the pain alone.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks is advance x

I get intermittent sciatica and fierce femeral nerve pain at times (was constant earlier in the year). Unfortunately anti inflammatory drugs don't really touch nerve pain. I've heard some people have success with anxiety/ anti depressants or epilepsy drugs in lower doses. I've tried a few like amitriptyline (didn't work on me) and cymbalta (terrible side effects). Lyrica is another one to consider. You'd have to weight up the pain relief with the side effects. Might be worth discussing with your GP.

The best thing I did was find a good sports Physio who does massage and helps to release my over tight muscles. All the years of pain often make us over tighten in areas which clamp down on nerves. While in other areas some muscle are weak. For instance since doing work on my weak glutts (butt muscles) my sciatica is not as bad ;) I'm also waiting on a referral for Pelvic Physio to directly help my tight pelvic floor.

Pilates is excellent for posture and alignment (we all spend so much time hunched up with our hot water bottles) I find if I can make myself do about 20mins on a bad day I get some welcome relief for a while. If you've not done it before try and find an instructor who is also a qualified physio. Once you know how to hold yourself and breath there are lots of routines on YouTube to use at home.

The other thing to mention is nerve flossing. My physio taught me this. It's a simple exercise to encourage trapped nerves to free themselves. You can Google how to do it for sciatic nerve.

Sorry for the epic length reply, I really hope some of it was helpful!

Hi,

I take pregabalin (think same as lyrica) or some people take gabapentin. Think I have put weight on as a result but so so worth it. I was in constant nerve pain - like wearing a pair of long shorts that felt like lightening!

Nothing else worked for me. Yoga helped a bit. Tried a variety of other stuff. TENS no good for me either.

Side effects worth it for me.

Hope you find something that works for you. Xx

Hi

Pyralgina is a good pain killer, but it can’t be taken every day, 7 days only and after that you need a break. I use No-Spa it’s a little similar to Buscopan, but I think it’s stronger, zero side effects for me apart from being sleepy. You can buy it in the polish shops sometimes.

You don’t need a prescription to get those meds, but I think it’s good to discuss it with your GP if you wish to try as it’s not sure if it’s the right choice for you.
