I have recently been diagnosed with Endo and my consultant said that I should start using contraception (I believe to stop growths from forming).I was wandering if people could advise me on the best method of contraception and I am also trying to assertian whether there are other benefits from using contraception when one is on the pill?
I have read online that it can also help to balance out hormones but I’ve struggled to find much other information.
The doctor has suggested two types of oral pills and also the injection. I have heard lots of stories of people struggling with their mental health as a side effect and this is something that concerns me but I would be interested to find out when methods people use?
Thanks,
Sophie

hormone treatment are all not same. sometimes injection method is not suitable for some womans. My suggestion is don't go for the injection. Because injection's main side effects is heavy bleeding and bleeding between in normal days. If you are above 33age. Best treatment is mini pill progesterone only. Too young or above 25 year old means combination pill is the most preferable. I'm currently using femilon tablet continuously without break for 63 days.
Thanks so much for replying! I’m 23 so will probably go for the combined pill in that case... just thought I’d try to hear from others as I’ve never been on the pill/didn’t know much about it but sounds like the pill is better than the injection then.. do you happen to know if it helps with Endo in any other ways ie balancing out hormones? Or do you think it’s just helpful to reduce heavy periods? Thanks so much
I'm suffering from heavy period from age of 12. But endometriosis is identified 1 year ago. I'm also searching how to balance hormone with food. But hormone is mystery activities day to day. Combination pill is definitely help for heavy period and endometriosis also. I taken depo povera injection for 1 year in my 15 years old that days is horrible. Period came any day and any time. So not predictable it's very difficult to survive during injection.
Hiya there, it really is so difficult to find the correct information sometimes isn’t it. From my understanding and what I’ve been told by my gynaecologist (who is a specialist in endo), the progesterone only pill or the IUD coil are the best options generally for helping with the pain of endo and preventing it’s growth but everyone reacts to things differently. I tried the progesterone only pill but I still had breakthrough bleeds so I’m on the combined pill Rigevidon instead as taking that with no break period stops mine. Which again from my understanding is what is best for endo as the less bleeding you have the better!
I’ve heard good things about the IUD for a lot people including my doctors who have said that it is the best option but I just like to be in control of the hormones I’m taking. It may be completely different for you.
There are of course side effects to any medication and some people’s mental health is affected by these meds, but there are plenty to try out so I’d suggest to see what works for you, and if you’re getting side effects you don’t want especially if it’s having a negative impact on your mental health ask to try something else instead. I personally get some weight gain on the combined pill but nothing else so it’s manageable as I just have to be a bit more careful about what I eat.
I hope that this helps a bit, I’m sorry I don’t know too much more and I really hope that you find the best method for you ASAP.
I'm currently on the depo provera injection and I just had my 2nd dose yesterday. The pains I used to get before a period have got better but I do have some spotting issues. With any contraception it takes 3 months for you to see the full effect and if it works for you or not. So I have to hope with the 2nd dose I will stop bleeding completely (I used to be on the injection a few years ago and I stopped having periods then) Obviously everyone is different, so what works for someone else may not work for you. But I hope this helps 🤞
