I had my first monthly injection of prostap (part of a 6 month course before my second hysterectomy to remove my ovaries) 4 weeks ago. There hasn’t been any change in the pain it’s just the same but I feel constantly tired even though I’m on iron tablets and multi vitamins, have a constant headache and feel sick. My stomach feels like a washing machine and to be polite about it I’m ashamed of my own company. I also feel like killing someone or crying all the time the second option being the better one. Is this normal?

Hello Tallulahbelle39,
Prostap is a GnRH Analogue and the hypoestrogenic (oestrogen-deficient) state they induce can cause the symptoms you are describing - including the mood changes.
Have you been prescribed add-back HRT alongside your Prostap injections? It can take a little bit of jiggling to find an HRT brand and dose that suits you, but they can help alleviate some of Prostap’s more challenging side effects (I found oestrogen gel helped me best, but every individual is different).
Also, have you read the Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPc) for Prostap? Drug manufacturers in the UK publish detailed advice about their products - how to administer and monitor treatments, sode effects etc. online alongside the standard patient information leaflet and you can find both for Prostap here:
medicines.org.uk/emc/produc...
Do tell your GP and prescribing specialist about how you are feeling (especially the mood changes) as it is their job to monitor and manage any side effects so you get the best result from your treatment.
Hope that you feel a bit better soon, x X x
Hi,
I was the same when I had the first injection. In my own words i went mental!
But those symptoms you describe are also similar to menopause which you may have after surgery. Do you have any HRT with this? This could make you more stable.
Hi they gave me hrt Tiblone 2mg but I’m not allowed to start it until I’ve had my next injection a week today and I’m also only allowed a small dosage as I’ve already had a hysterectomy in April this year but need a second one in 5 months time to remove my ovaries as the endo returned a month after the last one
