I am finally having a lap done this Friday, after almost a year of being in pain on my right side and having horrendous periods my entire life!
I am feeling a little nervous about the procedure and the aftermath, I went private for a referral and the doctor who saw me wants to fit the mirena coil while I am under. What are everyone's opinions on the coil? I have seen a very mixed bag of reviews and I just can't decide what to do?
What should I bring me to the hospital on Friday? I've got some loose clothing as I'm told I am going to bloat like anything, will I bleed after?
Any advice or just warm words will be appreciated, I am terrified of going through this and them not finding any endo, though they have suggested it could be polyps too?
Thank you lovely ladies <3

The mirena is up to you. I actually had mine fitted yesterday I've been on various pills for the last 13 years and my latest one stopped being as effective which is why I'm giving the coil ago.
If you're really not sure you could wait have the lap wait a few months see if you think it's helped enough or if you think the coil might be worth trying.
As to what to take, things to keep you busy I take my phone with light hearted episodes of things like friends on it to watch whilst I'm waiting. Make sure you have slip on shoes for afterwards you don't want to bend down and tie shoe laces etc afterwards. Loose clothing I bought pj's a size to big to wear. Take things just encase you have to stay overnight such as tooth brush and paste, shower gel etc. It's uncommon to need to stay but best to prepared. And take a pillow and leave it in the car so that when you leave bit the pillow between you and the seatbelt to its not directly on your incision sites. I don't like any hot drinks and get bored of water so I take a bottle with squash in for afterwards as you have to pee before they let you leave.
It's totally normal to be worried about what of they don't find any endo. I told myself that if they didn't find endo it crossed something off the list as to what it isn't and I saw that as still getting closer to an answer. But the most important thing is that your surgeon has a specialist interest in endometriosis, as it can present in alot of ways. So sometimes general gynecologist miss it because it's not the most typical looking endo and they say it's not endo when it is. You can just Google the surgeons name and find out their special interests, especially as you said you went private.
Good luck for Friday, I’ve not got a date for my first lap but hopefully should be soon! Hopefully this will be the light at the end of a very long tunnel and you’ll finally have answers!
I’ve currently got the copper coil fitted after trying both pills, and the injection. My consultant has said the same in regards to when he does my procedure that he’s going to swap out my copper coil and replace it with the mirena, he has stated it should benefit periods in controlling them more and making them regular.
I’m like you though and have never ending problems hence why I changed to the copper coil because it had no hormones. The coil however has personally helped me, and has prevented periods being heavy and regulated them more. I think though because the mirena has more hormones this will benefit more than the copper.
My pre op nurse advised loose clothing and a pillow for the journey home to stop the seatbelt pressing down on your stomach.
