Hello,
I had a total hysterectomy and bi-lateral salpingo oophorectomy in July to finally get rid of extremely painful periods and heavy bleeding. It was done laparoscopically.
Once the operation was done, my consultant found that I did indeed have adenomyosis which was what was causing all the pain - no endometriosis that he could see, thankfully.
I recovered quickly from the incisions made during the surgery and was back to work after 4 weeks. Apart from occasional twinges now, I’m pain free.
Now that all my ‘bits’ have gone the relief every month is unbelievable.
No pain, no bleeding, and although I have now gone into early menopause it’s a million times less troublesome than my periods used to be.
I wish you well on your journey
I feel better as well. I kept my ovaries which are beneficial to long term health. Only know to do your kegels to help control your bladder muscles. That's a small price to pay compared to having adeno.
Hi, has anything happened since you posted sunflower? I am very early on in my whole 'journey' but recent ultrasound showed adenomyosis and potential endometriosis. Next step is probably laparoscopy. I have had my children so the need to preserve all function is lower and my consultant is pretty much leaving it up to me to decide how to progress. He seems to favour endometrial ablation but hysterectomy is one of the options, it just seems so extreme. I'm trying to figure out whether to go conservative with interventions for now, but then I think... why bother... I don't need to protect my fertility maybe I should just get it over with... wondered if you had found out more or made any decisions...
Hi I am having a full hysterectomy next Wednesday and to be perfectly honest it can’t come soon enough. I have Been told by so many people that the ablation will only be temporary and it’s cheaper for the nhs to do this short teeth but long term it is not a solution. I have bet. Putting this off for 5 years now and my friend has recently had a hysterectomy and now has her life back. I have both endometriosis and adenomyosis so sticking plasters on it with an ablation for me would not be a long term solution. My last period was so awful I was rolling around the floor thinking why am I suffering like this each month when I have been fortunate enough to be offered a hysterectomy I am 51 and my periods are still every 30 days and as heavy as they were 10 years ago. I know a hysterectomy is so final but my body feels diseased with this condition and unhealthy and I’ve tried so many options both natural and hormonal for relief but nothing relieved my pain. So I’ve accepted that my hysterectomy is a blessing and my body will stand a better chance of being pain free and I’m believing this.
Whatever you decide you need to be happy with your decision it’s nobody else’s decision that matters but yours as it’s your body and you need to feel and accept what treatment is right for you.
I’ll keep you posted on here if you like?
Kindest wishes x
