I'm having an internal exam in a couple of days to see if there are any cysts on my ovaries to see if I may have PCOS. If nothing is found, I will then be having a laparoscopy to find out if I have endometriosis as my gynaecologist was pretty certain I have it. I'm 17 and I'm really worried about having the exam as I'm scared it's going to cause a lot pain. I've never managed to use a tampon and I can't have sex because it's too painful. Has anyone had one done before that could tell me a bit more about what they do and if it does cause any pain? Also, does anyone have any tips about how to make sex less painful? My boyfriend is incredibly understanding but neither of us are sure how to make it less painful.
Thank you x

Hi I was in the same boat. No Sex, no tampon etc, very sacred of exam. The nurse used the smallest tip to insert a camera, it didn't hurt at all and she showed me the screen to help take my mind off it. They found a tiny cyst on my left ovary but my symptoms, like yours were severe and she sent me for a lap. Thank goodness as the lap showed endo on bowel and bladder and exactly were a tampon would touch a very deep infiltrating nodule, all removed.
As for sex, penetration may be out of the question but everything else is amazing, try small ring vibrators for around the outside to stimulate orgasm. Most important though is that if you don't want to that they are not bothered and can please themselves. A good man, who loves you wont mind!!!
That's really reassuring to hear thank you! I'm glad the laparoscopy went well for you. Yeah he's really supportive and doesn't pressure me at all, I think it's more just that at my age, sex and losing your virginity etc for some reason is important and it just makes me feel bad sometimes that I can't do it. I'll definitely give those a try thanks
