Pre Op Assessment

Hello lovely people

Just wondering:

What is covered in the pre op assessment (for diagnostic lap)? I have mine in a couple of weeks and I am wondering if it will be anything more than the standard tests of bloods etc.

Will I be able ask questions specific to the procedure; technique that’ll be used; etc.

I’m sure I have been told what it will involve on a number of occasions but retaining information is a struggle! Should probably just keep my note pad out at all times!

For mine it was more standard going through all your forms with medical history and what pills you are on etc and then the blood test. And then checking each form with your personal details. Some parts were very repetitive like confirming dob etc.

They took my weight, height, urine sample and even measured my neck. You may need swabs too if you’ve not had an operation in the past 12 months.

They didn’t go through any info on the procedure again. My consultant did that on the day of the operation.

You can ask the nurse but they probably won’t go into much detail as it’s their job to ensure that all your medical history is there for when you come in for your operation.

Mine took about 1 hour.

Forgot to say you’ll also get a pack to explain what time to come in on your operation day, when you can eat and drink until on the day.

You might get guidance notes on general what to expect when having an operation and guidance about stopping smoking before hand and why they give you surgical stockings to wear for the operation.
