Positive experiences from having both ovaries removed

Hi there,

I’m due to have both my ovaries removed (bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy) aged 27, this is the best option for me due to a complex medical history.

I really want to hear from those who’ve had this done recently, or a while ago to hear positive stories.

I’m currently on zoladex and it’s given me a life again, so I’m hopeful that this op should mimic this.

Especially interested in those who had there’s out at a similar age :)

Any post op tips also appreciated!

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies x

Hey,

Im 29 now but had my TLHBSO February this year when I was 28. I had been on both Prostap and Zoladex prior and both had helped my pain but not enough for me to come off morphine. For me this was the final option which my consultant hoped would work but he couldnt be certain it would.

Well I can tell you it has given me my life back 10000%. I now take no pain killers and have no pain.

My recovery was long but that was due to me being so ill before my operation. I am still struggling to find the right dose of HRT but Im sure I will get there and it is a bit of trial and error.

If you want any more information then let me know happy to share the good the bad and the ugly. 😂 x

Hey!

I am so so happy for you! That’s amazing!

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I really wanted to find someone of similar age as I was worried.

How long did it take you to feel recovered? Are you on tibilone? Sorry for all the q’s! X

No worries. I felt the same when I had mine done as I was so young.

Honestly, it probably took about 5 months before I started to feel better and start to feel like my recovery was going the right. However, I was readmitted into hospital at 10 weeks post op which set me back and turned out to be due to no HRT causing extreme bone pain in my hips.

Im not on tibilone, I tried that initally when I was put on prostap and it didnt agree with my mental health (it made me suicidal). Ive been on Evorel estrogen only patches. Which had been fine until the past week when Ive started to get the symptoms of too much estrogen. But I think the dose just needs lowering. It is a tricky balance. Are you on HRT now???

Hi Livvi,

Thanks for replying! Sorry it’s taken an age to reply.

I’ve had my op done 4 days ago now, I’m continuing with the HRT I was on before so fingerscrossed everything continues to go smooth.

Are there any things in terms of lifestyle etc. That you have to be careful with being on HRT etc. Now do you find? Xxx

Heyyy, no worries.

Omg I hope everything went well for you. How are you feeling now?

Not really no being on HRT doesnt really make a difference to anything. I have put on a little bit of weight but I also went from not being able to eat a lot to suddenly eating 3 meals a day and unhealthy snacks in between. So whilst I would like to say it was the HRT it was definitely the food. 😂

Other than that I am finally getting back to my old lifestyle and doing things that over the past 2 years I would never have been able to do.

If I do too much I do get the dreaded swelly belly still and get some pains but it doesnt last long once ive rested.

Xxxx

Hey,

Yeah I’m feeling surprisingly good, I find it get a bit of pain if I over do it, but other than that great!

That’s great that your able to start eating again properly, I know how it feels I was unable to eat stuff until I went on zoladex ( so I put on a few 🙈).

I’m looking forward to being able to test out the new body in terms on exercise etc. But I know that’s a while away yet.

I’m so pleased everything is going well with you! Have they said that the swell belly will eventually stop? Is that because everything inside is still healing? Xxxx

Awww thats so good that you are feeling so well.

Yeahh Ive managed to go back to horse riding and running again which is brilliant along with returning to full time work.

It should settle over time but can take time. Im just over 8 months post operation. To be honest it is slowly getting better and happens less often now or only if I really over do it.

If im honest though I will take anything over the pain I was in.

Xxx
