I believe it is normal and not helped by the pain killers. It was 3 or 4 days for me and it was not easy first time. My Dr advised me to take Senokot in advance to help.

Unfortunately yes, happens to me every time. I usually need double dose stool softeners (different to plain laxatives) plus movicol and glycerin suppositories. Jump on this quickly and aggressively - trust me!

If you're on opiate based painkillers, (morphine, codeine, tramadol) they will cause constipation. It isn't helped that you probably cleared everything out before the op.

Try a litre of pineapple juice, consumed over about an hour. Another thing that helps move things is pure coconut milk. If either of them hasn't moved things in 24 hours, you need to get some Ducosate, but you'll need a prescription.

I didn't for about a week after mine because the pain relief made me very constipated. A stool softener helped but definitely don't use a laxative, I'd imagine the way they work would be very painful!

I was 5 days. I had terrible gas pains for the 5 days then eventually had a bowel movement. I used milk of magnesia. It definitely helped!!xx
