Hi everyone. I've just been recently diagnosed with endometriosis and have so much going through my mind. I thought I'd post on here to see if anyone had any advice. I was admitted to hospital on Feb this year due to suspected appendicitis. I had been suffering with pain on and off since last summer (just after my second baby was born). They removed my appendix during a laparoscopy. Since then the pain has continued but slightly lower. I went back to my GP who referred me to the gynaecologist. I had my appointment with her this week and the histology report on my appendix was shown to me which said it was endometriosis on it. Now it makes sense as to why I've been having these pains and other symptoms. The gynecologist gave me two options: to try the mirena coil or to have another laparoscopy where they can try and get rid of some of it. I've since been reading up about the coil and I've read that some people have bad experiences with it. So I'm not sure what to do really. Also I wondered if it's normal to just seem to get endometriosis in your 30s and not have any symptoms prior to that? Thanks in advance and sorry for the waffle!

Hello,
Sounds like you have had a lot on your plate, but I thought I would share my story hopefully it will help, at 29 I was diagnosed with both PCOS and endometriosis with out a single clue I had either, I had no symptoms at all with the PCOS and while I did have heavy periods and some discomfort nothing leading me to suspect endo, this was only discovered as part of fertility investigations and prior to IVF, ironically since having my little one two years ago the symptoms of my endo have significantly increased, I did have a laparoscopy prior to the IVF it was key whole surgery, the recovery time was about a week and was minimally invasive I was in and out in the same day - due to mine being prior to fertility treatment I didn’t even look at or consider the coil, but I guess getting diagnosed in your 30’s does happen 😊
Do the surgery! If possible try and find certified center and ask your gp for a referral.
The coil is a very personal decision, but I personally will never again try this medieval torture. Keep in mind if you give them permission to fit you with the coil during surgery and you don't like it later, they will refuse to remove it! Also keep in mine - they are payed big money from the company! They always push women to have it. I had friends who didn't have any endo nor did wanted anything else than condoms for contraception, who were pressured over and over again to have this thing.
Thank you for the tips! I'm going to go and see my GP on Wednesday and discuss it with her too.
