Endo all gone after Lap but still have pain

Hi, I had surgery almost 3 months ago and it went very well - all clear of endo which is great! - but I still have the same abdominal pain and lower back pain since before surgery albeit a bit less often than before. It’s definitely more bearable now but when it hits it still affects me significantly and affects my walking/sleeping and sometimes stops me working. I had a phone consultation with a specialist recently (I didn’t get a post-op appointment at all so I had to call the hospital and chase up and I asked to come and see the consultant so someone could explain what happened in the surgery and discuss pain management going forward) and they then sent a letter that said ‘not much endometriosis was found’ during the lap, only a small spot which they cauterised and scarring, and they said that even when there is no disease some women may perceive pain. They also suggested that I take Amitriptyline and come into the next clinic session.

I feel so grateful that the consultant is taking me seriously but I do also now feel like I’m wasting their time as technically there is no disease in me any more, especially when they said I was just perceiving the pain, it made me feel like it was all in my head and that I don’t need to take up their time and resources.

I thought I would feel so much better after surgery, and now I feel like I’m being so demanding but I just want someone to sit down and explain what everything means.

Has anyone else had this experience of pain after excision/cauterisation? And does anyone have any advice about Amitriptyline and side-effects? I’ve taken anti-depressants before (sertraline) and it was a very unpleasant experience so I’m not sure whether to try this or just grin and bear the pain.

Thanks!

Hi I had my lap on valentine's Day. I still get twinges and my periods have been bearable but still in pain. The worst bit of pain is at the bottom of my uterus and also in my left ovary (they removed a cyst off it) during my last ovulation. It felt sore. I'm assuming the pain in my uterus is where they cut into it. I have a theory that the pain I'm experiencing now is the last of the internal healing. You might have only had a small patch but they would have had to cut through muscle and into areas throughout your abdomen to explore and make sure that was all there was. I think it will get easier overtime. As my fitness is getting better and my abs are building back up the pain is getting less but I'm still getting twinges. I have found that simple ibuprofen takes care of the pain now instead of having to rely on a cocktail of naproxen and codiene. So maybe trying to stick to lower doses and less powerful drugs might do the trick for you. My husband tried amitriptyline for his firbromyalgia and he said it was one of the worst things he's ever taken, it caused hallucinations and itching for him. Sorry for rambling on, hope it gets easier for you.
