Recto vaginal nodule what is this?

Just wondering if anyone could tell me what this is and what are the effects. Just read some of my medical file and it says back 7 yrs ago when they removed endometriosis from various place they found this nodule but left it. I didn't even know that until now and it's just been left. I'm getting shooting pains going up my bum a lot and pain could this be related. I'm waiting for my consultant to refer me for a MRI privately but everything is taking time.

Thanks

I had recto vaginal endo removed in 2015, it stopped the shooting pains up my bum and my pain going to toilet. Fast forward to now and it's back with a vengeance. No pain killers touch it's, it's horrendous. I'm waiting to sort surgery but having a tough time of it and currently launching a formal complaint against the NHS about my poor treatment. Anyway just wanted to say you are not alone! Good luck x

You will most likely need surgery to get the nodule removes. A rectovaginal nodule is a nodule located behind the vagina and in front of the rectum, in the area that separates the two. It can cause pain during sex, bowel issues, constipation and firing pain in the bum like you said obviously. It's a very troubling spot to have a nodule.

I suggest you get referred to a BSGE centre of even better a Nancy Nook excision surgeon to discuss that.

It might have been left because they often need a bowel surgeon working together with the gynaecologist to remove them. I can’t believe they didn’t tell you about it! They knew I had one, and I was given the option of waiting something like an extra 12 months for a specialist bowel specialist to be available, or to have the rest of the endo excised sooner and leave the rectal nodule. I decided to leave it there, but it was my informed decision.

If you search this site you will find some discussions of it. “Javelin up the bum” is one description of the pain! Pain passing a bowel motion is something I’ve experienced with it. And bum pain after (normal) sex.
