Mirena Coil replacement

I had my mirena coil replaced 4/2/19 and since then I’ve been spotting continuously (as expected). However since yesterday I have started bleeding more heavily, due to my period starting earlier than expected but I have horrendous pains along with the heavy bleeding. The pains are similar to before my excision operation I had in 2014 and now I’m panicking my Endometriosis has flared up again. I know the mirena can upset your system at first but is this normal?

If you are in horrendous pain, go to A and E, don't suffer in silence. Don't let them fob you off either, doctors seem not to believe women in pain. See if you can get sent for an emergency ultrasound in the gynae department. It's possible the mirena has slipped and if so, you need to get that checked as soon as possible.

I had a scan done on my kidneys and bladder 2 weeks ago and they checked the positioning of the coil and the scan has come back clear along with confirming the coil is situated correctly. I also keep getting UTIs hence why they did the scan but because that’s normal I’m in a panick! It now doesn’t help I’m bleeding heavily as well as endo pain.

I'm glad to here that it has not slipped. Try not to panic, perhaps your body is just adjusting to the new state of affairs. If you are worried as it is much more painful than usual, I still think you should go and see the doctor. They will log the visit and so this will build up a picture for when you next see your consultant.

Best of luck. x

Good evening shellx90,

So sorry to hear you are in a lot of pain currently. You may find it useful to look at the below Treatment information back, generally it explains different treatments types for Endometriosis, but also more specifically (page 4) common side effects of using Progestagens.

If you suspect you may be experiencing other side effects, it may be worth talking to your doctor.

So an update and I am now suffering from my 4th Urine Infection since having my Mirena Coil replaced back in February. Has anyone else suffered from this problem? When I had my first Mirena Coil inserted 5 years ago I didn't seem to get these problems, however since last April I have been suffering on and off with UTIs and Kidney Infections but the last 12 weeks has been one UTI after the other. I have had a bladder and kidney scan done in March which came back clear and that my Mirena Coil was correctly in situ, but I seriously don't know what to do with these ongoing infections. My GP has mentioned to have my Mirena Coil removed and tested for infection but then I don't really want another one to be inserted, 1. because it is so painful and 2. in case I still get frequent infections. My other worry is if I have my Mirena Coil removed and then try to go back on another form of hormonal treatment which may not work and then my Endometriosis may flare up again so I am back to square one.

Please help if anyone else has experienced something similar!

Thank you :)
