I've been having rectal pain since October when on my period and odd spotting here and there headaches also but just recently I'm exhausted all the time having heartburn the rectal pain is more like a pressure like something is up there now constant and the last few days I can't stop pooping or feeling the need to poop my bowels have been all over since September I'm going to see the gynacologist on the 30th of April but I don't even know of it should be a colonoscopy I should be having instead does my story relate to anyone else I'm worrying it's something more sinisterx

I have had these symptoms, my rectal pain then went from pressure feeling you describe to searing sharp pains and I started passing menstrual blood when opening bowels. I suffered constipation and diarrhea, sometimes both in the same day, sometimes I wouldn’t go for days and other times 4 times a day. I also had bouts of heartburn, fatigue, left sided pelvic pain, backache and nausea. I was referred to both a gynaecologist and a gastroenterologist. I had a colonoscopy which was all clear and an MRI and even an endoscopy which were all clear, it was only when I had my lap they found the reason for the rectal problems. I had Endo all over my rectum and in my pouch of Douglas amongst other areas. Your symptoms are not unusual for Endo but I understand your worry, I worried about my symptoms for months and would worry waiting for results each time. I would recommend a colonoscopy just to rule out anything bowel related. My gastroenterologist said I have IBS caused by endometriosis and that quite often they go hand in hand. Try not to worry and just be pushy with specialists you see and don’t let them fob you off. P.s Endo can also cause anxiety, mine goes through the roof at times. I

Best of luck x

Hi Natspooch

I'm sorry you are having such problems. As Char411 says it does sound like it could be endo rather than anything more dangerous.

I can empathise as I've had ibs type symptoms as long as I can remember but for the last few months my symptoms - constipation, diarrhoea, pelvic pain and cramping, also sometimes rectal pain and bleeding have significantly worsened.

The pain is predominantly in my lower right abdomen and extended to my hip, back and leg. I was worried it was my appendix.

I was referred for ultrasound scan which showed a cyst- suspected to be an endometrioma around 6-7cm on my right ovary which I am now awaiting laparoscopic surgery to remove in two and a half weeks.

I am hoping this will bring relief but am still concerned about the bowel related symptoms and whether these could be the result of the cyst? Or endometriosis elsewhere (bowel?) or something else?

My op is being done by gynaecologist - I have not been referred for colonoscopy but wonder whether I should be?

The consultant has said that in the event that the cyst is stuck to my bowel it won't be safe to remove it but I haven't yet clarified whether that means the endometrioma cannot be removed full stop or whether it would require a colo-rectal specialist.

Good luck with your appointment. It might be useful to keep a diary of your symptoms to discuss with the consultant including whether your symptoms are worse certain times of the month or after certain foods etc.

I'm currently having rectal pain with my endo! It's constant but I find having warm baths soothes it, I also think relaxing the muscles inside bum helps too! I had my first Prostap injection today and hopefully surgery in near future. I too am worried it's something sinister, I am having blood test next week for hormone check and asked Dr if he can check if I can have blood test for anything sinister too! I have health anxiety so I am constantly worried! I think drs think I'm crazy! xx
