why oh why. its was 5 months after my lap and i went for a 4 hour bike ride. 2 hours each way. it was my fitness idea to bike to work in the new year. i did it for about 2.5 times in a row. Then, a day or 2 after that it was stuffed. It took my body about 1 week or 2 to get over what i'd just done. i got very sore. I should'nt be like this, as i've been doing walks and a few other exercises. (Although i hadn't done much biking for a few years). i better take it a bit more slower....but i did think i'd be better after 5 months. hope i didn't ruin my lap.!

biking 5 months after lap ok?
If you hadn’t done any exercise as vigorous as that since your lap, that’s probably why your body took 2 weeks to recover if you’d had such a massive break between exercising x
Well done for wanting to do it, but if you haven't done something for a long time, it's not a good idea to do that level of it straight away, you have to ease into it slowly to get your body used to it. Walking is great but it's a totally different type of exercise to cycling, you're using the muscles in a different way and if you don't ease into it, you could give yourself an injury. Short bike rides first to get you used to it, build up the distance/time you're on the bike to get your muscles used to it. You also need to make sure you stretch out your muscles after any exercise, especially if you're doing something for that length of time.
In terms of affecting the lap, after 5mths, I would've thought cycling would be fine but not sure I'd advise that length of time for your first ride, though I'm not medically trained so can't answer for sure on that point.
Maybe next time, don't go straight into riding to work, start with shorter rides evenings/weekends? Build up distance and time on the bike, then try cycling to work again. Rather than cycling there and back, maybe you could put your bike in the car, drive to work, leave car at work and cycle home, then cycle to work the following morning and drive home. Give yourself a couple of days rest in between then do the same thing the following week.

thanks for your time to reply and your help.
My pleasure. I know how difficult it is not to be active when you want to be, and it's equally difficult not knowing when the right time is to start doing things again. The important thing is that you have the motivation and desire to get out there, just be careful when you do and ease yourself into them, you'll be fine. Xxx
