I suffer with this permanently post a deep bowel shave excision surgery.

Ideas to try.....

Boost Water intake

Dates, prunes,

Muesli not processed flakes etc for breakfast (I make my own base with oats and a seed mix in 5 minutes)

Caffeine tea acts as a diuretic for some

Licorice and licorice tea (in moderation, it raises bp)

Increase vegetable intake to be a large component of every meal, minimise peeling

Increase legume and pulses intake eg chickpeas

Use wholemeal bread, grains not white

Avoid all beige food, processed and stodgy food

Bear in mind high protein meals go through gut slow.

Balance meals out in the day, if you've had a big chunk of protein then alter fibre in other meal content to compensate

Ration egg consumption, they bind (at most 1 in 3 days for me)

Superseded oatcakes as a snack

Consider plantmilks some include fibre

Treatments

Movicol prescription from GP (lactulose can cause SIBO)

Stimulate vagus nerve (osteopathy or possibly reflexology I tried the former)

I did all of this then gradually reintroduced treats and learned what I could get away with.

Hope some of this is helpful x

hi Tanky,

I had really bad constipation. (Some strong pain killers like codeine can even cause consitpation).

What worked for me was removing all starch, dairy, alcohol, chocolate, caffeine, (green tea, tea, coffee), from my diet for 3 months. Starch is in food like: wheat, rice, sugar, cos cos, oats, muesli, bread, any flours, etc, etc, etc.

Apparently bowels don't like starch. So to prevent constipation, definitely do not have starch.

I only ate healthy meats, vegetables and 1 piece of fruit per day, and water. That's it.

After being really constipated, I started doing normal bowel motions (didn't have to push hard or anything) after 2-3 days of my very strict diet. I was totally amazed with my bowels. I hope you find what works for you..x

Water water water and some lactulose solution.

U alway need lot of liquid as ur bowel needs it to make poo basically the more u drink the softer it is..

Then try to keep it regular..

I made it my mission to after spending three night in hosp with a impact of two week worth and they thought my bowel was split... the pain... i cant even explain.

So now i take probiotics, water, magnesium or sometimes a rhubarb complex tab. I just do that everyday and im regular as clockwork now..

Look back and think why?

I noticed i always got constip if i ate to much red meat or bread once i gave that up it kind of sorted itself out

Sorry you're suffering, constipation and trapped wind pain when you have endo can be so excruciating.

I use docusate and laxido. Docusate 1 or 2 twice a day and laxido for that extra boost when necessary. I won't let myself go more than 2 days without having a movement so at that time I make it my mission to get things moving.

I recently quit smoking and I have sugar free mints, which in normal circumstances and in quantity could have a negative effect, I find they help as a natural laxative to combat my heavy pain relief.

Water like other people said is essential in quantity when taking laxatives. Also moving about, I can't manage much but even standing doing the dishes can help me.

Hope this helps xxx

A drink lots of water a day I always have done, AV had these problems, well adult colic went a was 16 but ovbs didn't know a had all these illnesses. It's just gonny b a life long trouble for me as bowels don't contract anymore so if a do get some out or for instance after taking 8 laxidos a day for 29 days there a stopped it for 2 days n it was starting to build straight bk up n round my lower back again. A took them again yesterday and got a little bit out but that's all again. Am gonny have to be brave n go to the hospital, the hospital doesn't bother me but the fact of getting a poo bag on me is really scaring me lol if a didn't laugh as cry n probs wouldn't stop xx
