Correct management of opioids?

Currently been upped from codeine to tramadol due to pain increases. The codeine made me high and the tramadol doesn’t, ive never really had an issue taking/not taking the codeine but the tramadol... I’ve had withdrawals for the last few days.

I asked my doc how to manage taking the tramadol, as I have to take lots for a 7/10 day period for my worst pain then a week later another 5/7 days for ovulation pain! He just told me to only take them when in pain. Gee, thanks.

So do any of you have this... how do you work around it? Should I try something else? But for the strength needed they’ll all be the same. Lost, cold, anxious and sweaty 😂.

Hey, I can't help sorry :(

Just an idea, you could try posting on the Pain Concern group too, to see what responses you get on there as there may be different people on there that can help with the specifics of your medication.

Hoping someone can help xx

That’s a really good idea above... I too take tramadol... I try not to take for more than three days in a row before I have a break but the withdrawals even then are hard! I’m interested to see if anyone else has ideas-good luck with it xxx

I have basically the same issues but with norco. It sounds like the days you are in pain are pretty consistent and predictable? Maybe try tapering the last day or two of your pain. Use an over the counter along with smaller doses of the tramadol to sort of slowly bring your body off? Just an idea. Best of luck!

I spoke to my gp ladies and he advised I should taper off down to one a day. I can go back onto codeine to taper too as it’s not as strong. 👌🏻

Tramadol is a brilliant pain killer, but I found the come down from it horrendous. I spent the following day kneeling in front of the toilet but that might just be my experience. Hope this helps x
