what options are there for my daughter?

Hi, my daughter had had increasingly painful periods to the point of passing out with the pain. To put this into perspective, she has a lifelong chronic pain condition and regularly dislocates joints so you know, if she says if hurts, it really does hurt.

She was put on Loestrin just over a year ago, taking it with no breaks, and this has stopped the pain but she has gained lots of weight despite having a generally good diet. Last month she decided that enough was enough and she wanted a break from the pill to see if it did affect her weight or if it was, as the GP had suggested, all in her head. She lost a lot of belly really quickly (accompanied with lots of trips to the loo) but within 4 days she was doubled up with the pain again although she didn't bleed. So, back on the pill she went, the belly is inflating again and it took a couple of weeks for the pain to go away.

The GP says that the next option is Mirena but she is worried about this. Progesterone isn't going to help with the belly blubber at all, even though it is at a so much lower dose than in the pill. Also, the thought that her periods will come back, even if only very light, scares her.

She doesn't want to try Depo because she is scared that if it does what it did to me (constant migraine, massive joint pain worsening etc) then she's stuck with it until it clears her system.

She's 18 if it makes any difference?

Hi, Im 20 and in a similar boat to your daughter, I gained so much weight on the pill especially when I was on depo and the implant, to the point where I’ve now dropped 4 jeans sizes since October when I came off everything, I’ve now agreed to try the mirena as it’s localised progesterone just in your uterus and isn’t going to be going through the rest of your body to be absorbed like the pill, her periods will come back on mirena for a couple of months because it needs to “settle” as my gynae phrased it, but after 6 months it should be crystal clear whether or not the mirena has worked or not x

Hello TBirdAnni,

WOW! your daughter 100% has endometriosis. She's 18, and she deserves the best care ever, there is no difference how old, but the younger you treat endometriosis the better. Based on the symptoms you've told me its ringing all the endometriosis alarm bells. Read this book: "The doctor will see you now", author Tamer Seckin MD. Written by one of the best endometriosis doctors in the world. and visit their website: tamerseckin. I trust this will heal your daughter....all the best......xoxoxoxo
