I don’t really think there is a guarantee that it’s going to take your pain away. It may help to reduce the symptoms but it can vary with people. I’ve been taking microgynon since July last year and I still experience pain. Probably best to try and take pain relief regularly too x

Did it help your pain at all?

I use the combined pill so I can take them back to back for 3 months and have a break. The downside for me is that the pain is actually WORSE for me when I'm on the pill. Always has been x

Have you tried progesterone only? I’m curious why you keep taking them if the pain is worse?? Mine definitely hasn’t improved yet :/

Yes I tried progesterone only but bled practically the whole time I was on it. I also tried the depo injection which did the same. The doc said to stop the bleeding altogether you need oestrogen too which is why I take the combined pill now. I'm more conscious of the damage being done by bleeding every 25 days which is the other option when not taking anything. I cope with the pain somehow .....

I'm on the combined pill and it hasn't helped with pain unfortunately. On my Period just now and it's excruciating as ever. It helped shorten the length as I was regularly have 13 day long periods and I was really, really heavy before and now I only have one or two heavy days that are much better. But pain is the same and at times I think actually worse. It's different for everyone though. Good luck

I second this, it never made the pain go away, but it did dramatically shorten my periods from a 12 day horror extravaganza to about 4 and a half days to 5. Those 5 days are as painful as they were before but 5 days is easier to deal with then 12. I also had really irregular periods before so I never knew when they were coming, at least on the pill I can be organised and I plan my pain relief etc in advanced

Interesting... thanks for the reply! I don’t really have that long of periods to begin with. About 5 or 6 days, but very heavy and painful. As well as lots of pain with urinating and exercising throughout the whole month.

Docs can prescribe a medication called tranexamic acid that helps with the bleeding, it works by preventing the break down of clots so you will bleed the same amount but its more clotty if that makes sense, it made it easier to deal with as well. I know there are some who have been told to take the pill for 3 months at a time then have a week break then do another 3 packs together but I’ve never done it myself.

Oh wow never heard of that, will definitely ask my doctor about it! I was told by my doc to just skip the sugar pills for up to a year if it helps. She said there’s nothing wrong with missing your period appetantly

Have you tried skipping your period on the pill? Just keep taking them?

I tried for a few months and ended up still getting a period for the first couple of months then a lot of spotting and breakthrough bleeding. I then went back to taking it with the break but I've been considering trying again
