I was just wondering if anyone has had a colonoscopy?
Originally I had no symptoms of endo on my bowels but I have had every other symptom of endo for several years now.
It's only in the last couple of months my bowels have been playing up. Sorry if this is to much information but I've gone from having the runs to the complete opposite. I have also had dark red blood in my poo. I was told it could be a bowel infection which wouldn't surprise me because I've had every other kind of infection this year.
I have now been referred to have a colonoscopy for next week. I just wanted to know if this can be away of finding endo? I had a lap earlieron in the year but my surgeon never checked round the bowels because I showed no symptoms of it round there.
Sorry for all the information lol it's very embarrassing. But I can't help but ask questions about it all. X

I had a colonoscopy last year as I was showing bowel symptoms and also passing menstrual blood through my rectum with every period. All was clear and no endo found which was great news as it meant endometriosis hadn’t penetrated through my bowel walls. I had my lap this year and lots of endo was found in my rectum which explained the menstrual bleeding from there 😔 like this disease isn’t bad enough without that extra embarrassment.
The colonoscopy was fine, they give you a sedation which didn’t work on me so I had gas and air during which made me comfortable, I even ended up watching it on the screen. The most annoying part is the bowel prep, I had the one where you have to drink 2 litres of the stuff and it’s taste was starting to make me feel nauseaous, yet my friend had one where you only had to drink 2 glasses.
Good luck xxx
Hi, I had one just over a week ago for the same reason. They'll be looking for any endometriosis which might have penetrated your bowel. Fortunately for me my bowel was clear inside and they could see that my bleeding and other issues were caused by internal haemorrhoids. They banded them during the procedure, which I have to say was painful but I am pretty much back to normal after just over a week. I really do hope it hasn't penetrated your bowel because the treatment is bowel resection.
In relation to the actual procedure; it was fine. The colonoscopy itself was really easy and painless. I was lightly sedated and the surgeon and other staff were superb at keeping me relaxed. The bowel preparation is unpleasant though, but necessary. You will need to take the day before the procedure off work while your bowel clears, and I would plan to have a day or two at home afterwards because the laxatives will continue to affect your bowel for a while.
Hi, I had the same symptoms last year and my GP did a stool sample test confirming a bacterial infection. Have they done this test before sending u for colonoscopy? It’s worth finding out from ur Gp cos I had 2 weeks of strong antibiotics before they sent me for a colonoscopy
Oh that's interesting. They have done one on me as well but I don't have the results back yet. That wouldn'tsurprise me if it was an infection. I've had so many different ones this year it's ridiculous. X
I had a colonoscopy last year for same reasons and nothing was found but then had a laparoscopy and was diagnosed with severe Stage IV Endo with bowel involvement, rectovaginal Endo, Endo on POD and uterosacral ligaments which can all cause bowel symptoms. My Colonoscopy was v painful at certain points which they were surprised at but after lap I found my bowel was actually adhered to my pelvic wall which is why I felt pain when they were trying to get camera round during Colonoscopy. Not scaring you just being honest. Pretend the bowel prep is your favourite wine or cocktail and will be easier to drink 😊and don't be afraid to ask for sedation or gas and air if needed. Good luck xx
Yes that’s true!!! Mine was extremely painful and I asked for sedation and could feel everything. I shud have asked them to knock me out cos with endo and now after MRI discovering adhesions, it wud have been much more comfortable!
