Did you experience post-laparoscopy depression?

I am 3 days post-op. They told me I had stage 3-4 endometriosis but were able to remove all of it (will find out the official report in 4-6 weeks). I know it’s unrealistic but I thought I would wakeup feeling like a whole new person, completely healed! However, I’m still in pain. My intestines have been spasming (they found endo there too and removed it) and I’m still experiencing pelvic pain. I’m nauseous and can barely eat. I’m crying every five seconds. Did any of you ladies experience this? I’m feeling kind of helpless. How long did your recovery take? Did you feel worse before feeling better?

Hey, I had my lap a month ago and I’m still having times where I feel sad and just cry over nothing. I’m still in pain and my cycle is so messed up due to surgery.

Post op depression is fairly common after surgery but should improve xxx

Yep Rose, I just wanted to say I was very similar. I think we forget how anaesthetic can hang around for quite a long time and it's known to make you very emotional. Plus your body has been traumatised by surgery and needs time to recover. For my last surgery I had to have kidney surgery (unrelated) too. I was in an awful lot of pain and dreadful for weeks. What Rose has said about eating small amounts/snacking is perfect. Speak to your gp Nicole about an anti-sickness tablet. That will hopefully help the nausea and then you can eat more to aid your recovery. Take things really slow. Just gentle movement and walks around the house then rest. If they've tackled stage 3-4 they've done a lot and your body needs time to heal. This is the time for every comfort you can think of - for me, cosy bed, relaxing essential oils in an oil burner, box sets galore, some YouTube relaxation recordings. Do make sure you're getting adequate pain relief from gp. I think they really underestimate the amount of pain during healing time. I was on Voltarol, 30 mg codeine, tramadol plus paracetamol. And heat pads of course. Try and think if someone you loved had pretty major surgery what would you be doing to help them. Comfort, comfort, comfort. Lots of naps, gentle movement, nutritious snacks and distraction. Xx

Hey Nicole. I've added a few suggestions in reply to Rose's comment. Keep posting with any questions and take it easy xx

Hey, I experienced this too. It took me by surprise because I expected to feel better but I was so down and burst into tears all the time. I think what others have said, the effect from the anaesthetic and also the actual recovery from surgery really does have an impact. I can tell you though that it does eventually pass. It must have got a little bit better each day as I don’t remember when I felt “better”. But after some time I did feel better. I hope you start to see an improvement soon, I wish you a speedy recovery x
