Evening primrose oil for pain/discomfort

Does it help anyone else with the pelvic and lower back pain? I do not have a firm diagnosis of endometriosis (hence not going on suggested Visanne yet, will do more diagnostics in my home country for less), but it worked for me when naproxen and diclofenac completely failed.

In case you consider it, I would go with 500 mg once in 2 days. May elevate BP and HR, has a noticeable sedative effect. But it is so good to be pain-free!!!!

Yes, because of the side effects. Last time, after 1 capsule/day for 4-5 days, I gradually became groggy and calm. In one evening, on my way to a hike, BP went to 140/95 and HR to 140. That felt awful. So, I need to find a balance dose. Buuuut.... had almost no pain at the same time!

I've never heard of anyone having such strong good and bad effects from taking it. I'm guessing you're really sensitive to it - which is great for the pain obviously but not for the sedation, bp, etc. It's actually a supplement that they advertise for 'possibly' reducing high blood pressure. I've had severe endo 22 years and took evening primrose oil for years before moving up to starflower oil 1000mg daily. I've found after around 6 weeks of taking it it does help quite a bit (enough for me to continue buying it!) but no great miracle but as I say I'm now stage 4 with adhesions, stuck down ovary and endometrioma so someone with milder endo may feel more benefits. I get no side effects other than slightly larger boobs (!) and I've been on meds for high blood pressure for 25 years since danazol for endo caused my bp to raise for life but for me taking the supplement has no effect on my bp.It's certainly worth trying but do discuss with your dr (I presume the original poster already has) in case of any adverse effects for you personally. For me, it generally takes my pain down just a notch (even one notch down in gratefully received!) and is very helpful for pms and breast pain. Just this month I've switched to high strength omega 3 fish oils as I know when I regularly have oily fish 3 times a week every week my period that month 80% of the time is much better. Whichever supplement you try as long as it has plenty of anti-inflammatory essential fatty acids in it it will hopefully help a bit. I've tried SO many supplements but evening primrose oil or starflower oil is the one I definitely see results from. Xx

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am flying off to my home country next week to see more drs, so just keeping the pain at bay for now.

I suspect they'll say that oral temp of 37.5 from ovulation to period is NOT normal and I need a course of antibiotics. I am under impression that they are better at recognizing a chronic PID. Here (Canada), no STD=no PID. 37.5 is fine. Persistent free fluid at any phase is fine. Come on, it's NOT!!!

I am not saying that I don't have endo, but I suspect that there is also another cause for the pain. The pain and elevated temps began after I walked barefoot on a cold surface a few times. Wasn't dressed properly either. I will post an update on how the things go...

Well, KABOOM. I tested positive for ureaplasma urealyticum. This specific test is not routinely done as part of STD screen, I had to ask for it after another episode of anxious googling. It's the mycoplasma/ureaplasma urine test. Prevalence of this kind of bacteria is high in sexually active humans, but it is often asymptomatic. Consider testing if you have long-standing pelvic pain and GC/trichomonas are negative... will repeat those again for the 100th time, just in case.

Another clue may be that there is persistent free fluid regardless of the cycle phase. I actually saw a post from someone about this. The symptoms were identical to mine.

Oh, and treatment right now is doxy for 2 weeks.

Ask your partner to present a complete STD check-up.
