On birth control but doctor wants me to take Tranexamic Acid. Worried!! Anyone have to take this before while on birth control?

Hi everyone,

I’m pretty new here and desperate to hear if anyone on birth control ever had to take Tranexamic Acid? Each medication heightens the chances for blood clots and both of them together probably isn’t good.

I have been having this prolonged bleeding which seems to be stress induced for about 3 months now. But once it starts it’s so hard for it to stop. I’ve had so many tests done but there’s no definite answer!! My most recent transvaginal ultrasound showed my uterus lining a bit thick and that I haven’t ovulated or had a normal period, so where is this blood coming from?! I started birth control Lo Loestrin Fe last month and the first week the bleeding was almost gone. Then it came back and now it’s heavier than what I’m comfortable with. I feel almost 3 large pads a day with someone big clots, or tiny clots. Apparently the doctor doesn’t think it’s enough bleeding but I’ve visited her so much and complained that she gave me Tranexamic Acid, but at a very low dosage to try out.

This also scares me because of the risks for blood clots and that I’m on birth control and already over weight. Has anyone taken this with birth control and was fine?? Thank you!!!

If you are worried talk to your pharmacist and explain your concerns. Also I’d change your doctor if she isn’t listening to you. To fill 3 pads because you are so heavy isn’t normal. Ask to be refrrred to the hospital x
