Had a pre assessment today, what a joke! 2 and a half hour wait and they forgot about me at one point! 4 different nurses for the whole thing, so unorganised.
They took 5 lots of blood and had to wait half an hour between the last blood test.
I expressed some worries about the catheter and stents but this was just a random nurse nothing to do with endometriosis so she just looked at me blankly and was pretty rude.
Ahhhhh makes me dread it even more.
Still unsure how much time I need to take off work too

My pre-op was generic too. You were lucky having your bloods done as when I asked if they wanted any blood off me they said “why? Unless you have abnormal bloods?”. Hmm, 3 hrs in theatre and they had no baseline bloods. So yes, my pre op was disappointing.
For you, I would try and speak with the endo specialist nurse - you might have to ring the consultant secretary for this - assuming your at a BGSE Centre, or reserve the questions for when you see your consultant on the day of the op - they usually spend time with you going over the consent again.
It does sound disorganised at your Centre but not much different from my same experience.
Hold on in there and try and speak to someone tomorrow or Friday?
Fingers crossed the Endo Nurse will help. It’s not unusual to have additional questions and fears. My consultant’s secretary was fine booking me an appt just to ask further questions.
Not sure about the 5 lots of blood! It is reassuring to know that they will have a baseline though.
Can’t help so much with the worry as I’m a ball of stress myself around these things, but with regards to work I think it would be a safe guess to advise them you’d need 2/3 weeks off but warn them this may extend depending on the extent of your surgery, best of luck and you can always phone your gynaecologists secretary and speak to her if need be, X
Hi! Generally a pre-op assessment is just there to assess your fitness for anaesthesia and answer any questions you may have. I'm sorry you had a rubbish nurse and such a frustrating time. I don't know anything about stents as I think that has to do with the nature of your incisions and the extent of your surgery. I've no idea how long I was in theatre as I spent a long time in recovery. As far as the catheter, if I had one I don't remember it at all. If you're still worried you can ring your consultant's secretary to ask questions, or you'll see both your consultant and your anaesthetist on the day of your surgery and you can ask any questions there. As far as your nurse not understanding because she's an endo nurse - I went private and had no specialist nurses but they still looked after me really well and answered any questions. Personally I just think you had a rude nurse!
As far as time off of work they say around 2 weeks is enough - but it's totally up to you and how you feel. I know I was stir crazy after two weeks and wanting to do stuff, though I was absolutely knackered after going to college. The best thing would be to take two full weeks off of work and see how you feel after that. If possible, you could go back on a part time basis. During recovery you really have to listen to your body. All the best xx
