After 9 months and a short course of norethisterone, my Mirena seems to finally be "working" in the sense I am not getting a period anymore... However I notice I am still getting pain which seems to be cyclical, i.e. during what should be my ovulation time and also when I should be getting a period. Does anybody else get this? Is this normal/ is there an explanation?
TIA! xx

Mines only been ‘working’ for 2 months and I’m getting a tiny amount of bleeding once a month still. I’m still getting pain before and during, however it’s nowhere near what it was before. I think it’s normal.
I’m having the exact same issue! I had my mirena in in October, my periods have been absent since (thank goodness as they were horrendously heavy, flooding constantly) but I’m still getting cyclical pain/fatigue and pain when my bladder is full, on urinating which feels like I have an infection, diarrhoea and pain on opening bowels, shoulder and hip pain for two weeks ish monthly, and when I think I’d be ovulating. My gp has referred me back to gynaecology (I have no official diagnosis yet as I’ve not had a laparoscopy or anything beyond ultrasound, which was clear) and I’m hoping that I’m going to be taken seriously as I’m no longer having periods. Have you had any diagnosis or advice on this? X
this sounds exactly like me! I get the exact same symptoms!! I have not had an official diagnosis either, i did have a lap in December last year which was clear, however it was not done by an endo specialist (and my consultant was extremely dismissive - not a good experience) and as I was still getting symptoms and my period became more and more painful (despite being on the Mirena) I paid for a private initial consultation with an endo specialist who is finally taking me seriously and put me on the norethisterone to "kick start" my Mirena (which worked), As I said I don't bleed (except for some tiny spotting) however I am getting all my usual pain when I am ovulating or supposed to be on my periods... I am seeing my consultant next Monday (on the NHS, he referred me to his NHS clinic after my private consultation) so will ask him too! I just wanted to know if someone had more info on this as i sometimes feel I am going crazy! x
I would love to hear how things go for you. My consultant is not an endo specialist as far as I am aware, so I’m going to ask him if I can have a specialist do the surgery. My main concern is that if it’s not endo, it’s not normal to have all the symptoms I’m having so what else is wrong? Xx
I was like this after my first lap - my consultant at the time made me feel it was all in my head and when my lap came back clear for endo I just thought the consultant was right and I made it all up! Until I met the endo specialist who told me that I am in actual pain and my symptoms very much sound like endo/adeno symptoms and that he didn't trust my old gynae's opinion! He said at the time he wanted to do another lap (he suspects I have endo on my appendix as it always hurts when I am ovulation and on my period but it was not checked at my first lap) but wanted to try and sort my Mirena first but I am going to ask for the lap next Monday as i only had a very slight improvement! It's always worth pushing, just having someone aknowledging my pain and other symptoms was such a relief!! xx
Hi, I've had a Mirena coil in for 3 years now and mostly have no bleed at menstruation but occasionally get a little bit. Nevertheless, I still always feel extremely tired and have pain and bloating during ovulation and menstruation. 😦
I am the same here, i could not go to work for most of last week due to fatigue and pain and it was during the time i am supposed to come on my period! Thanks for sharing your experience too! At least I know I am not going crazy!
