Worried if I made right decision to have surgery.

Hey guys! I’m new here and am so happy this exists/to see the support here, is great.

I recently had laparoscopy surgery after having strange pain attack’s almost everyday for 7 months. I had an infection and was given antibiotics but the pain didn’t subside. My gynecologist was convinced there was nothing wrong with me and advised me to just take painkillers, becasue eveyrhting looked perfect on the ultrasound. After seeing several other doctors who had mentioned endometriosis. I was put on the pill for 3months, the everyday pain was not going completely, however it decreased overtime. So my doctor advised me to wait and perhaps it will disappear. However I had a horrible pain attack during my period to the point where I couldn’t even walk. that finally was the deciding factor for me to do the surgery.

They only found 1cm of endometriosis which till this day baffles me. I am worried and have so much anxiety everyday that I did this laparoscopy. Because I’m scared of the consequences (adhesions) I always think maybe I should’ve waited and experimented more with medication. I can’t believe that 1 cm could’ve caused so much pain.

I am sorry to hear you are suffering.

Some people can have mild endometriosis and experience severe pains and symptoms but also some people have severe endometriosis and don't have any symptoms at all and it is found through investigation for other things. Everyone is different and with endo there is no one size fits all. Please don't feel you are alone, if you do need anyone to talk to we also run local support groups and a helpline.

Let me say the amount of endometriosis bares no resemblance to level of pain/symptoms. You can have severe endometriosis with no symptoms or pain. Or little endometriosis with huge level of pain and every symptom going.

I think you did the right thing; you now have a diagnosis which the doctors knowing can now treat more successfully because they know what they are dealing with! Endometriosis can only be diagnosed with a laparoscopy.

Keep an eye on it; if you are worried about symptoms returning then see a GP/contact your gynaecologist. Unfortunately it can sometimes grow back.; I think starry endo put an interesting article about recurrence. I think mine came back quickly because some was left on my bowel both times 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’ve been referred to a endometriosis specialist 🙌🏻

It’s awful women have to suffer so much before getting a diagnosis; I hope this changes in time 🙄
