Surgery booked but worried

hello all.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have been booked in for my first diagnostic laparoscopy in two weeks time.

I’m so glad it’s finally getting done as I’ve been suffering for 8 years with bad periods and pelvic pain.

However, I’m just so so scared they are not going to find anything. That there’s no cause for the pain I’m having. As it’s getting worse and more frequent. I’m reading lots on Endometriosis U.K. and your stories in this forum about symptoms. I just hit so many of the endo symptoms. Did anybody else feel like this?

Also - how long after your lap did you get back to normal daily life.

thank you

Hi 💗

It took me about 3 weeks after my surgery. I was scared too but my doctor said it definitely sounded like endo. Sounds like yours is too. They found stage three endo, on my uterus, ovaries, tubes and bladder.

How long do you have off work? Go slow and easy on yourself. Don’t be hard on yourself if you don’t feel like yourself for a few weeks xx

I’m speaking to my manager at work today. As I have a weeks holiday (which is handy) after the surgery but don’t know if I’ll need more time off?? X

some people recover really quickly and don’t need a full week. I think it just depends on the person. Have you had any other type of surgery before? It’s good you have a week and if you need more could you extend it?

First surgery and first ever anaesthetic. Yes that’s always a good idea! X

Yay! I'm so glad you got your lap sorted!I think we are so used to others saying it cant be endo, brushing it under the carpet or making out it's nothing that we doubt ourselves. If theres pain, there is a cause. Good luck! X

Thank you so much for those words. Even though they’ve given me the lap I still feel like nobody fully believes me and the pain I have. X

Hey!I felt exactly the same, after doctors telling me my pain was probably psychological, I was scared they wasn't going to find anything but they did. I had 2 weeks off work but went back to work a couple of days after a week.

Good luck x

Thank you so much. As much as I don’t want to have endo I need a cause for the pain and the bad periods. It can’t be all in my head!!

I have a week off work but not sure if I’ll need longer?

Exactly, hopefully they find a reason for it! Everybody is different but I stayed mobile and was fine to go back to work after a week, probably depends on the job too x

hey! Glad you have a date for your operation and hoping this will explain the pain you’ve been experiencing for 8 years.

So I had my laparoscopy in august, I had stage 4 endeometrosis and I got 4 weeks off work from the consultant. I must say I felt like myself again after about 3 weeks. Another thing like others have said it also depends on what work they do and how you heal.

All the best x

hiya! Thanks for the reply. Luckily it is booked as a diagnostic lap + proceed so if they find anything to treat it. Will just have to see what happens x

Hi,

I got my diagnostic laparoscopy 3 weeks ago. I had the same feelings. Its normal to be scared and anxious.

Like you I have suffered for years and was told it can't be that bad. I have stage 4 and DIE. Also in my bladder. Which explains my dire pain! I'm just relieved to know. I have a follow up next week and hopefully a plan now to go forward.

I was back in work (have a desk job working from home) by day 6. I was sore at the site where they went in and they did trigger my pain. 🙄. Im back to normal now 3 weeks after.

Wish you all the best. 💜
