I had my first pelvic, abdominal and kidney ultrasound yesterday. The nurse that carried it out made me feel awful. She was really dismissive and made me feel as though I shouldn't be getting a scan and that I was just overplaying my symptoms. My GP referred me for a scan for a reason. I'm hoping I have more luck and that the gynaecologist shows me more compassion when I see them. Nurse at scan yesterday said 'oh your IBS is probably causing all these systems'. 😔 Sorry for the rant everyone, just disappointed. X

Oh dear
They shouldn't be voicing their opinions on your medical status, it doesn't matter if it's a nurse or a doctor; they should always remain professional.
You should complain as that really isn't good behaviour.
Don't worry about what others think; the nurse wouldn't have been fully informed about all your symptoms so cannot and should not make a medical diagnosis / make any passing statements. I'm guessing she was just responsible for the ultrasounds? Your GP / gynaecologist is the one whom will look at your results and assess what's going on / next steps, so keep it all to discuss with him / her, including how you felt with what the nurse said.
Stay positive, you aren't making things up or overplaying your symptoms; you know your body and something isn't right.
Hope the next appointment is better xx
Thank you. That was my thoughts exactly. This has been going on for years, and I'm only now just making some progress towards what I think will be a proper diagnosis, so to then get a passing comment like that was hurtful. 😔 She said results should be available for my GP in a week, she was only responsible for scans. I'm still waiting for my gynaecology referral. Pain was horrendous when ultrasound probe was on my pelvis and kidneys so I'm not sure what that indicates.
Her comment is pushing me towards making a complaint against NHS Lanarkshire in general, as this has been going on too long and I'm constantly getting palmed off.
Thank you so much for listening. X
Dont take it personally nurses and doctors seem to judge before they find out whats causing the problems 😮 Its even worse when you are young and female 🤦🏼♀️ When I had an ultrasound I could feel the doctor silently judging when mine was clear 😮
Thank you!! I'm only 23, feel as though I'm being judged soon as I walk into a doctor's room. 😔
I had a very similar experience I’m so sorry this has happened. I had an ultrasound and nothing was found but I had a lap soon after and I have stage 4 endometriosis. I’m not saying that to worry you but assure you that even if your scan doesn’t show anything that doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t find anything. I hope you get some answers soon! Xxx
Wee update guys. My ultrasound came back normal. Obviously I'm relieved but I'm now worried the gynaecologist will fob me off and say there's nothing wrong with me. There's got to be SOMETHING causing my symptoms. 😔 Xx
