I had my first appointment with a gynaecologist yesterday after being referred by my GP for having symptoms of endo.
The gynae basically said my symptoms are just bad periods, and mostly talked about my weight the whole time (I am overweight and well aware of it!)
She didn't ask me where my pain was, what sort of pain it was, what pain relief I use etc. All she asked was when it started and when in the month I get it. She did an internal examination and acknowledged that it hurt me but disregarded it. I told her about my shooting pains, bowel problems, bladder problems, back pain etc., and she just nodded like I was a child making stuff up! I'm in so much pain, I left in tears and cried for ages because I felt like she saw my weight and made her mind up then and there rather than listening to my symptoms.
I might write a letter to complain but I feel so silly, what if I am making it all up and it's just bad periods? I feel terrible now.
I'm sorry for the rant, but my partner just doesn't understand, because the gynae is a specialist she must be right of course!

I was put on cerelle a few months ago so she wanted me to continue with that because it has reduced the pain, but I am still in pain but that didn't seem to matter to her.
I think I will go back to my GP and ask to see someone else xx
I would definitely advise to ask your GP to see someone else, I experienced the same thing with a very dismissive gynae who kew about half of my symptoms as when I would try to tell her about new symptoms at each consultations she would ignore me and not let me speak. She referred me for a lap back in December but even before I got it done she already decided they wouldn't find anything and said it was very likely I was suffering with constipation, at the time I didn't know better but when she made me sign my consent form she removedthe option of taking biopsies done because according to her it wasn't needed. I had my lap done and obviously they didn't find anything and sent me home with constipation as the diagnosis! Turned out that when doing a lap to diagnose endo the surgeon should take biopsies... After suffering the worst period ever after my lap I decided to pay for a private initial consultation with an endo specialist who was not impressed by the way my previous consultant treated me and said he suspects digestive endo as well as potential adenomyosis. I will most likely have another lap with him hopefully by the end of the year.
Keep pushing, you know your body, it's not all in your head despite what the gynaecologist can make you believe, I think we know when something is wrong! We all deserve the right treatment! Good luck!
I’m so sorry you felt dismissed by the gynae - I have had some dreadful appointments and it’s awful not to feel listened to or taken seriously- as if we would make it up! 😡 I changed GP because he made me feel like that and it was the best decision I made 😊
I agree with the other ladies definitely get a second opinion. You should not suffer heavy/painful periods which prevent you from daily activities. It is not normal and not “part of being a woman”.
You knew your body better than anyone else- keep going and pushing until you get answers.
So sorry to hear that you were left feeling that way. It is not right. I saw nearly every gp in the practice who tried fobbing me off with laxatives/buscopan and ended up needing surgery for a blocked bowel and resulted in colostomy!!
Not trying to scare you but when you know something is wrong, keep pushing til you feel heard.
