Pain in left side - mirena coil to blame?

Since July 2017, I have had severe pain in my left side. Occasionally, my right side and back will hurt but it is mainly my left side. After being referred to a Gynaecologist, I had two ultra sounds and a laparoscopy. We thought it was an ovarian cyst but that came and went and no sign of endometriosis . After being referred to general surgery and having a MRI which again found nothing. I'm now ready to give up. The pain is constant although some days are far worse than others. I'm so tired all the time, have no energy to do anything.

I have the mirena coil. It has been in almost 3 years. My mother thinks this may be the cause of my problem. First couple of years were fine. Periods stopped. Occasionally felt like my body was trying to have a period(bloating,sore boobs) but no bleeding. Past year or so, I've bled more, sometimes after sex and now this mystery pain. Has anyone else had similar issues or can offer any advice?

Hi, have you had a recent ultrasound? I’m wondering if the coil is out of position?

The other thing that occurs to me is that it may be running out. Mine have always run about about the three year mark. I get a new one and feel OK again.

hi, I've had two ultrasounds and both showed the coil in the right position. I hadn't considered that it might be running out though.

My gynae always tried to tell me that they last five years, but not in my experience. I looked up the research and they work for five years as a contraceptive. However the dose of progesterone gradually decreases over time. I think for me at about the three year mark it dips below the amount I need to keep my endo at bay.
