Lap cancelled last minute

Literally been sat in hospital since 11 30 waiting to go down for lap to be told at 5 20 that its been cancelled due to consultant running out of time because he showed uo an hour an half late!!

Im so angry/gutted. Iwas hoping that today would be the day iwould get some answers. Now ihave to wait another month!!

That is awful! I thought I was bad (got mine canceled at 8am coz Dr was too sick to operate! then got the next date cancelled too coz surgeon needs to consult with urology first!! ) I think you can complain strongly to PALS, you should be seen earlier than 1 month because it was a preventable event, in the meantime it upset your work life, your family and support system, your mental and emotional well-being!!!

Thank you for your reply. Iam weary about complaining because i have it in my head it will affect my next surgery date? Am iright in thinking this. The theartre manager was so annoyed he said the consultant didnt even want to come up and face me xx

well, he’s not gonna mess you surgery on purpose. You should get a date before, not having to wait 1 month! By complaining, it’s in the records therefore your surgery should be perfect if they don’t want more complain and disciplinary actions

The worst thing is the theartre mamager told me the consultant has booked the theartre for 2 weeks time at the same hospital (private) but consultant fobbed me off and said no its in a nhs hospital so "u will have to wait a month and live with the pain." I will be callimg his secretary tuesday when shes there to be asked to be put on the list for the 2 weeks time xx

Hi, did this happen in the NHS or a private hospital? I know about how complaints are dealt with in the NHS but maybe that’s not relevant?

Ah, I’m not quite sure what happens in those circumstances. But if the NHS is paying, it’s not getting a good deal and I expect would want to hear about what’s happened to you. They probably have a contract set up with the private hospital to help reduce their waiting list. So they should be able to exert some pressure. I’d contact PALS at your local hospital. If they can’t help directly, they should be able to find out who to contact.

In NHS services generally complaints are dealt with separately from your care - the details don’t go into your notes. The idea is that staff shouldn’t treat people differently whether they’ve complained or not. But if you complain about a specific person you should expect that they will be asked about what happened. The NHS has 28 days to investigate and answer your complaint, so although it can help address problems in your care it’s not necessarily quick. It’s more likely that it will stop something similar happening to someone else.
