Endometrioma Rupture

Diagnosed in 2015 with and Endometrioma in my left ovary. I've been monitored by ultrasound once a year to check on it and see if its growing and at what rate. A year ago I was convinced I needed surgery by my Gyno as it had grown to 7cm. I decided against it as I wasn't ready and wanted to try other possible health products. I took a new product called Emulin (carb manager and natural anti-inflammatory) which substantially improved my quality of life. I had more energy, greater sleep, less pain and even forgot about my condition for several months.

So the last week I was shoveling snow like a mad woman as I was feeling great. The next day I woke up with left sided back pain and assumed I must've hurt myself shovelling. 2 days later I started my period and the cramps were worse than normal on the left side. In the morning I had leaked through and the blood was so dark it was almost black. The color faded to a normal red the same day but the left sided cramps were still very uncomfortable. I'd also felt abnormally tired for that whole week since back pain started. I've been very energetic most of the past year until now. Today I'm feeling better, less pain and almost done AF. I'm wondering if it could have been a rupture or partial rupture? I'm really not sure as it has been a year since my last ultrasound and I'm meeting with My Gyno next month to check on things. I had a tubal ligation (clips) and my endo was strictly within my left ovary. Any similar experience or advice would be great. Also Any One who has had and endometrioma inside an ovary removed or removed 1 ovary I'd live to hear experience. TIA

I have had 2 cysts rupture within the last 5 months. The first one (in august) i had a lot of pain on my right side and back pain that was bearable for a while then it got to the point i couldnt move i struggled to eat and was vomiting. The blood was in my abdomen i had surgery to clear it up and felt fine and had a clear u/s in sept but in dec the pain started again and it built to the point i was again in agony, constant nausea or vomiting n loss of apetite i was hospitalised after struggling for a month and this time they decided to take out ny appendix as none of the docs believed it was another cyst however when i came out of surgery and as well as taking out apendix they had again had clear up blood from a burst cyst on left ovary. As they are monitoring you i would make sure you get it checked out asap!! Any pain that starts unexpectedly or increases needs to be investigated at the very least id get a scan done to check it over

good luck xx

Thanks Ginge30 for sharing your experience. I'm sorry for what you've been through, I did have this severe of pain when I was first diagnosed in 2015. I've been feeling a bit better with each day so If it was a rupture I'm guessing it shed during my period. I just know that the dark blood kinda shocked me as I know that's a sign of chocolate cyst rupture. S0 far no signs of infection, no fever, chills or nausea or vomiting etc. So I'll keep strong for another month until I can see my Gyno and get an ultrasound scan to check on things. Thx so much!

I had an endometrioma on my left ovary - it was larger than a grapefruit. Also had some scarring and smaller cyst on my right ovary. I had about 10 rimes over the course of 2 years when we believe a cyst had ruptured - or was at least bleeding into my abdomen. It was the most intense pain I had ever felt, and the last 3 times it was absolutely excruciating. It actually took my breath away for hours and I could only manage very tiny shallow breaths for a day, followed by a feeling as though someone had repeatedly punched me in the abdomen. That lasted for several days. I didn’t have external bleeding but my urine was slightly discolored. I know many people do have bleeding though.

I shad the large cyst and my left ovary and tube removed in December, as well as part of my right. I had to have open abdominal surgery (vertical incision) because I had a very high CA125, and although it looked like an endometrioma on the MRI, my GYN/oncologist was not willing to risk it breaking apart and finding out it was cancerous. Plus, he didn’t want me to have to have a second surgery to take everything out if it was cancer.

Recovery has not been easy, but I could tell within 2 weeks what a difference removal of my ovary has made. I feel SO MUCH BETTER. So many of those things that made me think I needed to lose weight and I was really getting older? They are gone! I realize now how miserable I actually felt before surgery.

Thanks for your reply BoilerMiss. It's good to hear that you are feeling some relief after having an ovary removed. I was supposed to get surgery a year ago and chickened out. My Gyno put some fear into me when explaining the risks to other organs. He also couldn't guarantee it would be something he could remove by laproscopic which would change the outcome from 2 weeks to 6 weeks recovery. I run a painting business and was concerned about the possibility of having to take 6 weeks or more off of work. I'm now anxious to see what's going on in there and prepared to take care of it. Thanks again for sharing and I wish you well in your recovery. If you have anymore insight or want to share more about the recovery process it wouod be great to hear from you.
