Hi iam on norethisterone I’ve being ovulating every day while I’ve being on it , it forces a period and helps with pain I think , some people have got pregnant while on it as well , it’s not a contraceptive just to warn you x

I can’t explain it well at all so I just googled it:

“Norethisterone belongs to a class of medicines known as progestogens. Progestogens are synthetic drugs (meaning they are man-made) and they mimic the effects of the hormone progesterone. It is worth knowing the effects of progesterone on the menstrual cycle so that the benefits of using norethisterone can be more clearly understood.

Progesterone is a naturally occurring sex hormone in females, and levels of this hormone fluctuate throughout the month. A drop in progesterone levels towards the end of the menstrual cycle contributes to the breakdown of the lining of the womb, and eventual bleeding providing pregnancy has not occurred. When norethisterone is taken, constant progestogen levels are sustained in the blood, stopping the breakdown of womb lining and subsequently preventing bleeding”.

It’s basically a period delaying tablet, it doesn’t actually help you get pregnant, but it can help regulate your periods by extending your luteal phase and making your cycles more regular.

The mini pill is an actual contraceptive though that will prevent pregnancy unlike norethistorone which just delays your period, The "traditional" progestogen-only pill (POP) prevents pregnancy by thickening the mucus in the cervix to stop sperm reaching an egg.

The desogestrel progestogen-only pill can also stop ovulation.

Progestogen-only pills contain the hormone progestogen, but don't contain oestrogen.

You need to take the progestogen-only pill reliably every day.

I’ve linked everything I found on google if you want to do some further reading x
