Feels like contractions

Hello, I had a diagnostic Laparoscopy, Hysteroscopy and endoscopy on the 5th of this month,

I have been fine up until today, I started to get pain around the bikini line area, but deep inside, to be honest the pain feels like contractions, has anyone had this or do I call doctor in the morning ?

Any information will be greatly received.

Are you due for your period? The first few months post-lap I had menstrual cramps that felt as bad as contractions. They eased up 3 months post-lap and now I have barely noticeable cramping each month.

Yes I am nearly due to come, so that’s something I never thought about,

Thank you so much x

Hi Zait1981

So sorry to hear about the pain you've been experiencing. I had a diagnostic lap in September and since then every time I've had a period - it's always the first day - I've suffered the same kind of pain that you describe....deep inside my abdomen around the bikini line area. The pain is just like having contractions...it comes and goes in waves and when it's at its most acute it's absolutely agonising....on a scale of 1-10 I'd say it was 15. I never had these pains before my lap, so goodness only knows what the consultant did to me!!!

The last time this happened was 3 days ago...my period wasn't due for another 10 days so I really didn't know what had hit me. I was literally crawling around on the floor, sobbing and howling and feeling desperate. My partner wanted to take me to A & E, but having read about how other women with endo have been dealt with when they get there, I decided to stick it out and stay at home. The intense pain lasted for 30 minutes and by the end of it I felt utterly, utterly wrecked.

I still feel very weak and upset about the 'attack' even today. I was supposed to be going out to see a friend on Monday and also another friend today but had to cancel both meetings. The worst thing about these episodes is that they can come on so suddenly and without warning and you're left in the most terrible state.

I phoned my hospital to ask if this pain might be due to a ruptured cyst, but they seemed to indicate it could be due to adenomyosis....I'm seeing a consultant on 2nd January and will ask more questions then. I'd also like to know if there's a really strong painkiller I can have that can be taken on an empty stomach. When I'm experiencing such excruciating pain I can't eat anything and therefore can't take a Mefenamic Acid pill (the only painkiller I've been prescribed) until the pain has subsided.

I do hope you'll be feeling better soon....hang on in there! XX

This is exactly the same pain I am having, last night my husband wanted to take me to A&E but as like you I refused took ibuprofen 400mg then went up to bed, wasn’t much use sitting downstairs moaning in everyone’s face, I was sitting on the edge of my bed just sobbing, is this my life and how it’s going to be from now on ?

So glad there is someone out their that can relate to what I am going through,

I also have Mefenamic Acid tablets but they don’t work. In November the only way I can describe it is it was like a stitch in my side, but much worse like it was an ovary it just went into a spasm, I was home alone with the children as my husband was abroad at the time, I stood up but the pain was too much to take I had to sit down wait until it subsided, then I stood up again the pain started but I forced myself to walk with tears running down my face I ended up dropping to my knees in the hallway unable to move, I was so scared, I sat on the floor for a good 20 minutes before I could move.

On the 5th I had a cyst removed from my left ovary and that’s where the pain was coming from. I honestly don’t think I could go through that again. Very traumatic.

I do hope you get some more answeres on the 02nd of January let me know how you get on xxx

You poor, poor thing!! Wish I could give you a hug!! Yes, I COMPLETELY understand where you're coming from...what you describe is so accurate!!! And I agree with you, the pain and the whole experience is incredibly traumatic and upsetting. Just like you, when I've had these episodes I've just burst into tears and haven't even got enough energy to blow my nose. I've felt too weak to speak properly or move...all I can do is howl and sob. And then afterwards I feel like I've just been run over by a bus...I'm just a shell of a person for days...hobbling around feeling exhausted.

I'm also, like you, in despair about how my life is going to be from now on. I can't imagine having one of these attacks when I'm out in public....where would you go? It would be incredibly embarrassing and traumatic. What are we supposed to do? Remain housebound??

I've read that the only way to 'cure' adenomyosis (if that's what's causing the pain??) is to have a hysterectomy, but I REALLY don't want that....however, if every time I have a period I end up in this terrible state, I'm finally coming round to the idea that if having my uterus removed will spare me this horror, then I'll have to accept it (this acceptance in itself makes me very, very unhappy, especially since I never had this level of pain before the lap)...

Anyway, yes, I'll be able to find out more when I speak to my consultant...

Really interesting that you said you experienced a 'stitch-like pain' in your side. I've had the same symptoms since 2000 on my right side and I've been wondering ever since if it might be something to do with ovary pain. When I first went to my GP years ago to discuss this, she said 'you've got trapped wind, take some peppermint pills'. According to what was found from my lap, apparently my right ovary is stuck to my ovarian fossa and is 'bulky'...so maybe that's where the constant stitch-like pain is coming from??? Although I'm mentioned this EVERY time I've seen a GP or gynaecologist no-one has provided me with any answers....

Thank you, yes, I'll certainly let you know how I get on during my appointment on 2nd January and if I can pass on any useful info I will!

Until then, I'm sending you big hugs...it's just horrific going through this level of pain every month...Hang on in there and try and rest up as much as you can. XXX

The GPs just don’t have the resources nowadays overstretched overtired, their surgeries are overflowing, no money from NHS, refer patient until she is at breaking point, that’s not good.

Sending big hugs to you too, take care for now, thank you for replying to my message xxx
